Ok so i have a slight problem, and Im not sure what it is so I will do my best to describe it.

Its an 05 SS/SC. 37K miles, GM stage 2, 2.9 pulley since 30K miles. I live in Ohio, so it is cold now, and the problem only recently started. Usually when I first start driving, within the first quarter mile or so the car will jerk like hell in second gear. Like I take off from a stop sign, shift into second, clutch is all the way out and at about 2K rpms, the car will just jerk real hard once and I push in the clutch. This is not light jerk either. Its quite violent. Everyone in the car is like WTF over? Im not sure if the motor is loading up or its misfiring. No check engine light or anything. After I push in the clutch, and go back into second gear, everything is fine. It has only done it 3 times in about 2 weeks. Today it did it again going around a corner in second gear. Anyone else have this problem?

 

Drive by wire throttlebody + stage tune+cold weather. Mine has done it too.

 

Mine does it every once in a while. Scares me for a little bit, but as it warms up, it gets better.

 

My guess is that its caused by the engine flooding and stallling for a split second and restarting.
These cars run rich and with the cold it stay in a closed loop (sensor input ignored by the ecm)
until it sees I thing a 12 deg change in engine temp.
This closed loop was programmed for a stock car and with your mods it probably is a issue when its cold out.

 

Cold weather or your spark plugs will do that.

 

Mine has done that since new. It's the colder weather. It will go away when the motor warms up. You have to go easy on the gas when shifting to second for several miles.

 

had same problem..in the morning. THROTTLE BODY. get a can and take ur throttle body off and spray the hell out of it. that should do it. if not, ur maf is bad or needs cleaning.

 

Thanks. I will have to try the throttle body cleaning, but it will be about 6 months till I can get to it.

do you let the car warm up? to what temp? my guess is the car is not warm enough when you start driving.

you cant wait 6 months. you gotta clean that throttle body. period. no excuses. takes 10 minutes.

 

Its like 25 degrees here in ohio and I just dont have much time right now. I leave for Air Force basic training on Jan 20th. The car is just going to sit for a few months, so I am going to mess with it when I get a little more time and it is warmer.

I really dont let the car warm up that much. I let the coolant temp get to about 70 degrees or so and take off. I drive it real easy though till it gets to full operaitng temp.

 

this is your problem, and the reason why it only does it in the cold.

 

NO. its throttle body. needs cleaning. i had all the same problems, warm or cold. especiall when there is humidity in the air. dirty throttle body will make ur car hiccup and hesitate. clean it..and ull be good to go.

 

mine did the same thing the car is stock no stage tune, i just let it warm up in the mornings, hasn't done it since.

 

a dirty throttle body will do that, yes. but, being that it only does it when it's cold and in the first 1/4 mile of driving, it's safe to assume that it goes away once the car warms up. which rules out the throttle body. If it was the throttle body it would do it all the time.

 

mine did the same thing whether it was cold or warm. the first 1/4 miles or so was terrible. it jerked bad. once i cleaned the throttle body... never had the problem since. i know what im saying. i may be wrong..but my car did exact same thing urs is

 

I cleaned my throttle body just cause it needed it, and it still doe this when its cold. If i let the car coolant warm up to 110ish then drive its much better.

 

cold starts and not letting the car warm up, is not healthy on a car, you should always let your temps get up, I won't move mine until its well over 100 degrees(usually 140-160)... if you don't have time in the mornings.........wake up a little earlier and make time, your car will love you for it

 

Unless someone can provide solid proof that warming your car up to full operating temp before taking off helps, I am going to continue doing what I do. I dont just take off right away by any means, but im not going to wait that long for the car to warm up. Dont get me wrong, it probably is better to get up to 170 degrees before moving, but how much? Until I see proof, Im putting trust in the synthetic oil and driving it.
I know many people (mostlly girls), about 2 seconds after starting up, they take off like there is no tomorrow. I have never seen them have any major failures with their motors.

 

DUDE I TAKE OFF LESS THEN 2 SECONDS AFTER I START THE ENGINE. every time! had a lot of problems of hicups and jerking the first minute of driving...muffler shops kept tellin me it was moisture in my exhaust. wrong. it was a dirty throttle body the whole time. sprayed a can of it in and gone. runs perfect. later that day i replaced my maf sensor which took away hesitation when i was driving...

iit doesnt get any colder in orange county then it does in south texas. your problem if not the throttle body, is then ur maf sensor.

there should be no reason for your car to act that way. i have 99,300 miles on it and it was 28 degrees this morning. i never let it warm up and it gets up and goes..no problems.

so u have other issues.... car should be able to start and go...unless of course its like 0 degrees then i understand a lil problem or two

 

The girls we are talking about are running an lsj with stage 2 right? I am here in phx where it is mostly shorts and shirt weather all year but during the time I leave for work at 5 in the morning in some rare cases in the winter it can be freezing temps. During those times if I don't give the car at least a few minutes to warm up im in for a jerky few miles just nothing you can do about it until the car warms up a bit it's just that way. All cars exhibit some type of side affect during certain weather conditions it's just the way it is.

 

well i never have those problems and temps are colder here than in phoenix. but then again I have a zzp tune. depending on ur tune is whats effecting it. like i said. i never have those problems even when it was 25 one morning. usually its 30s and 40s here.

 

so if your going to just keep doing what you have been doing, then why even ask us!

 

you think that sucks... if i idle roll even on a flat even road in 1st gear or sometimes 2nd. car warmed up or cold start. at idle roll it my sc shakes not violently but close to that. pisses me off it cant idle normally in 1st gear

 

I didnt know if it was a common gm stage 2 tune problem or something like that.
