Does anyone know what could be the problem when my steering ? when I turn corners at regular speeds the steering wheel gets hard and sticks in the position its in. Im pretty sure the power steering recall was done by the previous owner of my car.

Or ball joint, or strut bearing.

Is it making noise? jacked it up and looked it over?

No noises. I haven't really been able to jack it up because it's winter. I'll just have to bring it to the shop. I find the car shakes a bit when I'm on the highway tho. It might be unrelated too

Jack the car up, shake the wheel side to side, any play is bad, replace it

I have no play so I doubt mine will be due to ball joints. Maybe its the steering gear rack u guys r talking about. How would I clean/replace it? Sorry if I'm stealing your thread op but I've got the same issue too. Lol

My mechanic said due to the cold weather -30 c° and moisture getting in my car from snow on my shoes, moisture gets in the power steering sensor and it doesn't know where the steering wheel position is and doesn't know when to help...

These cars are beginning to push 8 or 9 years old... Things wear out, if you don't want to deal with it never keep a car more than maybe 5 years.

You would maybe have a case if you have an 08 or 09, but seriously? It's an econobox.

To be back on topic, consider your alternator. It seems like the power steering is one of the first things to go when the alternator isn't working at full power. It can be sticky at corners, especially if you've been driving a lot, or if the car has been sitting awhile.

I have this exact problem, the wheel doesnt come back out of the turns so easily any more and feels heavy while in the turns.

My car did sit for a day when the weather was like -35C over here. today went to start it up, felt fine for the first 4 km, then I started to notice a difference. hasn't gone away yet.

I have no idea what it could be. have you solved yours yet? do u have any warning messages or CELs? because i don't.

I fixed mine by spraying PBB blaster on the steering ujoint and let it sit all day. Got in it to drive home from work and it was back to normal.

it's been a while, just thought I would post my solution. It was the U joint, the entire intermediate shaft had to be replaced. The U joint was seized in one position, so it felt like i was turning the steering wheel in chunks. New intermediate shaft did the trick!
