Steering wheel moving over bumps...

2005 cobalt ls 62,000 miles

Hello. This has been an issue for quite some time and I cant figure out whats wrong. Whenever my cobalt goes over bumps, the steering wheel moves and for the most part doesnt return to center. Steering feels a little harder (stiffer) and car feels unstable driving over bumps. I have to continually correct the position of the wheel but not when turning. The car also shimmies when driving approx 70 mph

I have had the struts, shocks, i shaft, LCA bushings and stabilizer links replaced to try and alignment to correct the problem. Alignment was fine. The repair shops I have gone to tell me the ball joints and tie rods are fine. But I dont believe them.

I was experiencing the same problem when I took my car in for LCA's and they told me I didnt need all new arms, just the bushings. But now, from what I have been reading, I should have just replaced the entire arm. Probably would have been more cost effective and I would have new ball joints.

Anyways, my research points towards ball joints and from what I understand the ball joints can be replaced in the 05's.

I was wondering if anybody had any other ideas on what could be causing this bump steer and stiffness. Any feedback is appreciated

are you lowered? bump steer is common when lowered. causes a toe in and out situation, and can make ur steering wheel jerk a little bit.
