Thumbs down Steering wheel shake while braking.

So this happens often but not all the time, when slowing down from higher speeds (70-60) once the brakes engage my steering wheel starts shaking like it has a seizure. Pads and the rotors look fine, what else could it be? (alignment was done not too long ago and problem wasn't there before or after alignment).

99% your rotors are warped. they may look fine when you look at them, but you can't see visually if they have a minor warp.

Like everyone else has said, they're warped. But you can just get them turned instead of replacing them, unless they're already worn bad. Riding the brakes or constantly braking late builds excessive heat and is most often the cause.

If it is only when you brake, then it is your brake system (Mostly warped rotors).

If it sometimes occurrs at certain speed without pushing the brakes too, then it could be an unbalanced wheel (Most tire shops don't have a RoadForce, so they do a spin balance, which isn't nearly as accurate).

My car with 20 miles on it was doing this... so it had nothing to do with riding the brake and it was at speeds you're talking about. The rotors need to be turned. I wasn't happy having to get my rotors turned with 1,000 miles on them, but it is what it is.

How come it only does it like once in a blue moon? I get it maybe once every 4-5 days at most.

Maybe ur not braking as hard all the time. I know my brakes were bad and only vib'd when i put alot of pressure on them. But just slowing down casually using the brakes only slightly didn't have a vibe. Replace ur rotors, problem will be solved. There is no other thing that could cause this problem only during braking, it's the rotors.

I found that mine did it only under certain braking, vehicle load conditions. I had to be going a bit downhill at 60 and then it would shimmy. If I were to go 60 in a straight line and hit the brakes it wouldn't do it as much.

It is not changing. The conditions in which you notice it are changing.

Yours should be covered, it'll depend on the amount of KM tho. Obviously if you have a lot of km then they wont cover it. I had my front rotors machined at 19000km cause they vibed under braking, covered by warranty.

just resurface the fronts if they're within spec....most small shops charge 10 dollars a rotor if you remove them and bring them to the shop to be turned

the cobalt rotors. at least the 2.2 are very very thin. most shops will say no to turn them. they have to be very very close to perfect with only slight warpage to be turned. I kno. iv tried.

99% of cobalt owners get new stocks. but go ahead and take them off to be miced if u want OP.

just saying wht my experience is.
