steering wheel shakes when braking?

When i slow down to come to a stop my steeringwheel jerks a bit from left to right, back and forth. I dont really ever remember this happening before i got my new tire put on. but i do have my car lowered n such. anyone experienced this also? and should this be something i should worry about. it doesnt actually effect the direction of the car, it just shakes

Yep you either have to balance your wheels or get new rotors. If you brake hard in the rain a lot your rotors will warp real quick. Aspecialy these stockers.

Well, I've had that issue with the SS... sometimes its the rotors, sometimes the tire needs balanced as said. In talking to a LOT of people about this, sometimes it's just high and low spots, not acutally "warping".... if you feel it in the wheel AND The brake pedal, then that's when the rotors are really warped.

Not saying they AREN'T warped now, but just from my experiences with my rotors being cut 3 times Front, and 2 times rear before GM authorized the rotors to be swapped. Now, after 12K on them, they are shuddering again.
Oh well... I am getting new pads and rotors in a month anyway

i usually dont brake hard at all. i usually perfer to downshift until till 3rd then use my brakes. I've only had once close call where i had to actually "slam" on the brakes. But the thing is, i was riding around on a donut for like 2 weeks because i had to special order the pirelli tire. after they put the new tire on and removed the donut was the first time i noticed the shaking. my car has about 7k on it. if it does happen to be the rotors, should the warranty cover it?

p.s. i only feel it in the wheel not in the brake pedal too. and its not like a hard jerking, its like a back and forth wable. Car seems perfectly aligned aswell. i dont veer off to one side if i release my hands from the wheel

i have the same problem as well as my buddy with another ss, he took his car to the shop when it had 11000 miles on it they told him it was a wearable item and not a tsp. he talked to a mechanic who told him that the factory pads are to hard for the rotors. go figure im at 8000 and have a severe shimmy braking over 60. Rotors are all warped.

if it started happening after they put tires on then take your car back to the place that ninstalleed your tires. if you dont tourqe the lug nuts to the correct specs you will warp the rotors when u put the tire on. there fore if it started after the new tires then likely they put them on to tight and i would atleast call and complain

I had the same problem but only with after market wheels. No matter what I did, rebalance, hubcentric rings, rotate tires, it still shook the steering wheel when braked. Put stock wheels on and no more shaking.

Had the same problem, wheel shakes in my hand but the brake pedal had nothing, told the dealer and he said they will look at it. found out the the tires needed re-balancing. they re-balanced them and the problem went away.

it doesn't have anything to do with your wheels being out of balance. If that were true then it would shake getting up to speed... not slowing down. Replace your rotors and call it a day.

Like novajoe said its the rotors...if you want proof take your finger and run it down the face of the rotor...if you feel grooves welcome to the club and good luck getting the dealership to replace em. I fought em for a month got no where. Better off just buying new oads and rotors yourself.

You thats the typical symptom...maybe since you have under 10000 on your car you can get em to replace but if they try to fight it complain like a 12 year old whiny girl till you get your way.

well if yours does it while your going, your car either needs an alignment or the tires need to be rebalanced. my problem was the rotors. i bitched and bitched and finally got them replaced, but they didnt replace them with slotted and cross drilled
