Supercharged: where have all the power gone?
Supercharged: where have all the power gone?
2005 cobalt ss/sc was taken to the dealer to program the keyless remote, change the oil and fix the power mirror switch.
Few hours later car came out, paid for service and went home. On the way home I noticed something. It's like the car wasn't "alive" anymore. Like the supercharger wasn't working and the power was all gone.
What would cause that? I noticed the oil that they used might not have been mobil 1. So today I drained the oil put the good one in myself. By the way the dealer changed the oil last friday and it was pretty dark already. What kind of freaking oil was that? Does a supercharger burn the oil that quick? Car runs a little better but still with not nearly the power it used to have.
I know they had to get into the computer to program the remote and could have done something else to it, but what... Also they took it to another building to check the mirrors. They could've done anything to it and I have no way to prove anything.
I've been thinking, maybe they did something to the high performance chip or put a different one. Which would explain the loss of power. I don't even know what kind of chip I have (or had). Don't even know how to check something like that. I don't know what to say. All I know is I'm highly pissed.
Here's another "little" issue I have. The gas level seem to go down pretty freaking quick. I can't blame the dealer for that one. I think it was already doing it. However, I did a 60mile trip to my uncle's and I noticed the little gauge went down 2 marks. How many miles per gallon does a supercharged get? And I know some will say that depends on how you drive. But on average, how many miles does your supercharged give you with a full tank of gas? I'm trying to find out if what I'm seeing is normal.
Any help or adviced is greatly appreciated.

You might have a bad injector? Monitor your MPG on the odometer and if its gettin under 22 on the highway thats most likely what it is! Run sum injector cleaner for starters to unblock any unwanted slag from the injectors; zmax would be your best bet but there are others out there. If not take it straight to the dealer before your most likely 36000 warranty is up if its not already.
Good Luck
Good Luck
..
I would recommend running royal purple oil from here on out. It's the best out there! Followed with the same for transmission fluid also. this will help your MPG greatly if used as a Daily Driver; Worked for me.
I'm not sure if it was modified. I bought it like that from a dealer with 30k miles on it. I'm assuming that if the settings that were there got reset in the computer then there's no way to go back to what you had with the simple touch of button. Right?
..
a dealership would have to be pretty damn stupid to reflash a stage 2 tune back to stock! that is almost impossible because there machine runs a self test and saves the current settings before they make any changes to the pcm.
What happened to you? And let me ask you something, why should I pay for somebody else's screw up when I already had the car they way I wanted it? Isn't this something the dealer can do?

THe dealership can only put a tune back in your car if it was registered to your car. If (and we are assuming) the tune was overwritten with a stock tune, then it is possible that:
1) Your car had a custom tune
2) Your car had a copy of GMS2 tune from someone else
3) You had a registered GMS2 tune, but if they re-flashed your PCM, there is a chance the flash didn't take properly (has happened to a buddy of mine here) and simply needs to be re-done.
If it is option 1 or 2, then you need to either get another tune from someone other than GM, or you need to buy Stage 1, which comes with the required tune for Stage 1,2,3 (talking just for injectors ppl, nothing about the Stg 3 adjustability/N02).
EDIT: ALL THIS ASSUMING THE FLASH IS THE ISSUE

you should pay because your the one complaining about the power being lost. gm plugs the car in, the computer sees its been tampered with and it fixes it to gms standards unless you tell them not to reflash the comp. then they tell you if the comp is the problem then it wil;l viod warrenty but thats it. its worth it to get a good tune anyways that way you know whats going on in your car and you know whos done something if its wrong or right.
yes gm can do something if your car was staged to begin with, if not then your on your own. not to sound harsh but thats the way it goers in the performance world.
get a tune
on another note. the reason i started posting on this site was because i had gm screw my computer up and was looking for a local guy to tune my car...
welcome to the site
The tune might not be the problem , the OP never even said he was modded . We need more info from him before this gets too far, is it a staged car ? Whats the redline and how much boost are you getting near redline? For all we know its a stock SS/SC.
But let's say i'm full of it and I don't know what I'm talking about. The above still applies. If it's not in the computer as others suggested, then what then? What could it be? Just wanna narrow it down.
Freakta and Thought:
Thanks, that gives me an idea what to tell the dealer.

hey just pop your hood and tell us what the supercharger pully says on it as far as what size pully you have... we can tell you if any stage parts are on the car
ps why did you pay for a oil change at 60.00 if you could do it your self for 20.00

the dealership would have no reason to flash your ecu the remote and mirror switch would be in the bcm so unless the worlds biggest retard worked on your car the dealership had nothing to do with your problem and if you though the oil was wrong or wasn't changed you should have taken it back and told the service manager if you call them on there mistake they will fix it

guys keyless entry is in the bcm....... there is no way in hell the tech was dumb enough to reprogram the pcm. you dont even neet to reprogram the bcm. all you do is hold lock/unlock at the same time when the system is activated. i would assume when they changed the oil the fucked up or with something in the way of the filter housing.....
just my guess
just my guess
I don't know, maybe a picture will help. I'll post one tomorrow. I went to the dealer to get other things done and I ended up changing the oil. I don't have a driveway or garage. To use someones garage I have to drive a bit. It was around $40 for mobil 1 oil at walmart.
What the hell are you putting in your car! Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart will run you 6 bucks a quart and that is the cheapest around. All of the chevy dealers that I have been to want at least 80 dollars for a change, ya it sucks!

I believe I'm looking at the right thing. The pulley should be on the far left there are no bolts on it and it's about 4 inches in diameter. It looks stock to me as well. I'm pretty sure it wasn't modded.
