Tach Spiking in 4th/5th

So I've had the car for about a week and I've noticed it leaking a bit of tranny fluid. Diagnosed as the passenger side axle seal, replacing it this week, topped it off with Royal Purple Max Gear.
Anyway, I decided to get into on the freeway, went through second/third fine, but when I hit about 4k in 4th it just hops to the redline, feels like I'm in neutral, so I backed off and tried it again, turned out to do the same thing in 5th as well.

I'm new to 5 speeds and I don't really need the top of 4th and 5th in daily driving, but I'm just afraid it might be a sign of something serious.

That sounds like a slipping clutch to me.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought, but it's only sitting on 2000kms atm I bought it with 1400kms though, I guess they weren't gentle. I got it through a used dealer as an insurance rebuild(rear quarter damage), GM won't even think about warranty

http://www.turbotechracing.com/produ...idproduct=2752 I was looking at the Spec Stage 1 kit if I have to replace the entire thing, is that setup any good? I'm stock and won't be pushing major power anytime soon. I was kind of hoping to spend it on an exhaust though.

I'd be more worried that the case has a crack in it , and thats why it's leaking . They are known to soak the clutch with tranny oil and cause exactly what your talking about.

Yikes, I'd heard of that issue, I didn't notice anything from where I was looking, but I can't really check the top side. It couldn't hurt to pull the clutch while I've already got it on jack stands though, thanks for the heads up.
