TEMP issue Displays ---

Hi everyone!

I am new here and have a small bit of a problem. My girlfriends 08 colbolt 2.2L started not displaying a temperature. It would display ---. When it happens the fans spin up no matter what temp cold or hot and it burns rich.

No problem grabbed the scanner said it was the ECT. So made a trip down to Napa and picked up a new one installed it. After a quick clear of the code it started working perfectly. All well I got it fixed.

Then it happened to her again. I hooked up the scanner same code. I clear it and it works perfect for a day or two then it stops working again.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Possible bad sensor or thermostat. That's the problem that everyone seems to be having

Good morning and welcome to the forum syntax,

It looks as though you are vehicle savvy and are in search of some DIY advice; I'm limited on providing information on that front, but if you had wanted for me to check for any open recalls or warranty information for the vehicle (would need the last 8 of the VIN), or if you decided to work with a dealership to look into this, I'm here to assist!

All the best,

Definitly the sensor or the wires going to it. Thermostat wouldn't show ---

Theromstat.

100% without a doubt. If you check codes you find a P0128 stored but no check engine light because it hasn't failed the test twice.

Trust me on this one. I've seen this happen every time a thermostat gets stuck on a late model Ecotec car and all but one of them has needed a thermostat. There was one case of a coolant temp sensor but that's one out of fifty or so.
