Temp reading not working

This is a small issue but my buddy's car temp doesn't read out on the dash and sometimes he said that it reads -22 and then goes back to --- on the dash. any thoughts on how to fix this?

Check/Replace the temp sensor behind the left headlight. (Driver side)
