well here it is. I have heard our steering knuckles were weak to start off. well the pics explain themselves. I was making a decently hard right turn at about 20-25mph or so and i heard snap! follow'd by the steering wheel locking (now i cant turn) and im half way through a turn, and i rolled up a literally 2 inch curb. I take it to the dealer this morning telling them the balljoint/steerin knuckle failed and cuased me to loose control and bump a curb: their response was there is ;dealer:absolutely no warranty since u had an accident, ;i reply; i didnt have and accident, half way through a turn the wheel locked up and the car lost steering ;dealer; replys well u definitly hit something, ;i reply; if i did hit another car how come i have zero body damage and not ascratch on the car, :dealer; well it doesn't matter u hit a curb, theres no warranty ;i reply; i only bumped over not into a curb after the steering had failed, and the fact is if i had jumped a curb the wheel and tire would have been toast, and the wheel is perfect (minus a lil road rash) and the tires 100% still inflated and has no cuts or slices init, ;dealer; well call your insurance company and i have not made any reports about this nor an estimate, ;i reply; well if it is a failed part isnt under warranty? is there anything else i could do?, ;dealer; you coudl call a rep but they cant do anything for you, ;i reply; ok can i have the reps number?, ;dealer; no look in your owners papers, ;i reply; umm they are in the car with you, ;dealer; o heres the number......

so far the tally is with this one, a brakeline, caliper, balljoint, control arm, axle, knuckle, strut, and a transmission. o and a fender and side skirt

screw that man they should cover that under warranty! You had no control of what the car was going to do and that f^*kin dealership should fix it! Sorry i just get so pissed when dealerships do this and they have done it to me so many times and none of it was my fault.

I actually don't think it was a failed knuckle. I think the lower control arm ball joint failed, and the knuckle spun, twisting it off the strut.

thats i i figured to, first the balljoint and the jolt form the curb finally broke the knuckle. I have set up a meeting/appointment with a gm rep and it may take up to a month for them to decide is its covered. BTW they even supposedly hired a private investigator to follow this up. since it turns out the service advisor made up his own story and how i now have body damage and underbody damage to my car...( i didnt see any, and these pics prove that) do to a accident.

Nope. Changed my mind. The control arm is twisted, meaning it was attached when it broke. The knuckle did fail. Looks like right at the hub.

i also argued that if the knuckle did break due to an impact it would most likely break at the stem, not litteraly in half like it was either defective or overstressed fomr weight.

Did you experience any grinding noises or groans before this happened to the point where you could feel it in the steering wheel and through the floorpan when making fairly aggressive turns? I'm getting this now when I make left turns and I'm starting to get the feeling something's gonna break real soon!!!

that is messed up... i cant believe they wont do anythign about that... i take that back i do believe it lol... gm is a good company but they don like to spend unneeded money... they're all about makin that paper like everyone else... and from looking at it they can obviously see that you didn't hit anything... your tire is just muddy from the grass and the rest of the car is in tack... if you had hit something there would definitely be a mark on the tire... without a doubt to do that much damage there would have to be

Hey so how many miles did you have on your car at the time cause this could be a serious saftey recall...... And one other question did you hit any big pot holes that day or any day on that side of your car cause i know here in michigan pot holes or a bitch lol and the dealer should be totally responsilble for your car as long as it has warrenty.

This is making me totally reconsider not auto crossing my car. It would be nothing like it being all my fault cuz i was racin it!

I'm not one for suing people, I hate frivolous lawsuits, BUT.......should this not be covered as a vehicle defect I would sue. For sure. What if you'd been making a turn and gone into the path of a semi with no way of avoiding it, what if you hit a telephone pole instead of a curb? BIG PROBLEM there....

If you file a claim with insurance and give them that story they will go after GM most likely. And insurance companies have lawyers, if you have comprehesive coverage that is.

Since there is no way to really prove the the failure caused the accident or the accident caused the failure you aren't going win with the dealer or GM.

Welcome to the world of big business, GM doesn't stand behind it's vehicles.

agreed, i only have 7200 miles on my car. i have hit a few decent potholes(it is NY) but nothign recently. I am still deciding if i should call insurance or not as of right now. Let me rate go up 1000$ more versus 10,000$$ in damage seems fare to me.

You could prove part failure if you sent that knuckle out to be analysed at a metalurgy lab. They can tell if something had stress fractures in it prior to the accident. Just make sure its not being sent to a GM lab, use an independant lab. Its funny i've read a story about GM's hummer and also the envoy having steering knuckle failures. Wheel falls right off in some cases. I think theres been 25 related accidents so far and they are doing a recall.

Even though you hit a couple of them pot holes i think that should not have been the problem cause they are suppose to be made to take that kind of abuse lol but i would try to get the dealer to fix it cause its still under warrenty i think i might let you insurance company know cause they may be able to give you some help cause if they dont have to pay for it they aint going to you know what i mean so you should give em a call.....

i have 5-6 witness's and i told them omg im glad no one got hurt, what if soemoen was walkign or another car was there....or even wrose what if i was on a major highway or on an exit ramp.

Why is the axle broken?? Is it possible that it snapped, causing you to accelerate into the curb, thereby breaking all that ****?? Were you turning to the left and accelerating??

dude you know my experience with dealers... **** GM ********>.. anyway. If worse comes to worse, you know I'd fix it for cost of parts. But there is no way in hell that shouldnt be covered... remember news channel 12 can be you friend. Grab your dad"s trailor, pull that ****** up on it, and park it right in front of the dealership with a nice sign..

"GM BUILDS PIECES OF ****< AND WON"T FIX THEM" should at least **** em off enough.


seeing this gets me worried, since I like to take turns at very high rates of speed. I think it's time I order those competition steering knuckles if they fail that easy.
But definitely keep me updated on this.

thanks paul, i was turning right. I think the axle broke becuase when the knuckle broek the car was still rolling dont forget, so when everything bound up and the tranny was still rolling somethign had to give and it was the axle. initaly when i was in the turn it didnt feel right so i was on the brakes. Earlier that day i heard 2x when leaving stop sign a slight slick but it sounded alot like an axle to me so i shrugged it off. i have alotta thinkn to do in the next few days about what i may do. Hey but atleast i have another car, my camaro to drive to work, although it only get 3-4 miles to the gallon itll have to do.
