Water Pump Dead/Dying

I know the topic has been discussed, but not in depth.

I'm close to 50,000 miles on the Cobalt.
Just put a h/e on the other day. It worked fine while I was bleeding it after install.
Today, not working.
I do the usual tap it with something and it kicks on but as soon as the power is turned off it won't turn back on unless tapped again.

Questions:

>Will it still be covered under warranty (my dealer is usually good about things even with my mods but I don't know how many miles till the warranty is up).

> Has anyone else with an OTTP H/E had this issue? Perhaps its a result of trying to move too much coolant?

> Any better quick/temporary fixes than tapping it till I can get a new one? I can't exactly get under the car and tap it every time I go somewhere.

> Anyone know the cheapest place to buy one? GMpartsdirect has them for $124.00

mid-day bump

Not unless you have an extended warranty. If you do, I don't see why you couldn't get it done.

The pump doesn't care how much coolant is in the system, it moves the same amount regardless.

Tapping it is the only way, unless you want to try taking it apart and see if it is a problem with the magnet and then try and fix it yourself.

I have seen where people have picked them up off ebay for 30 or 40 dollars. I believe it is the same pump as used by the Ford Lightening or Cobra... someone should be able to verify that.

Im pretty sure you can drive it with the pump not working but the pcm limits or turns boost off when the temp gets to high.
