What the?

OK...so i was driving along..60mph. Well stop sign ahead. So i downshift. 4th....down to 45mph...going to third *griniiiiinnd* WTF!????!?. Ok lets try this again..clutch in, smooth sailing now.
Fast forward 15 minutes..coming up to another stop sign..down shift..4th...45mph.
downshift 3rd..clutch in, to 3rd. *grind*..after a little grind..it lets me in.

Soo what the **** is wrong with my 3rd gear that it wont let me in it ever. I mean i hardly use third gear unless im acelerating hard. In town, i go 1st to 2nd to 4th.

Anyone else have this problem...

By the way, its already at the dealer..im just trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with my car.
Oh and sweet loaner car...a fucken van..tshh.

Because if i would put it in 3rd...i would be in it for like maybe 5 mph...im usually at 20-25..when i shift outta 2nd.
So i have just gotten outta the habit of using third for the most part unless im in really low rpms in 4th, in town.

You are not supposed to skip gears in the ss/sc. You have now f-d up your synchros. Better get them replaced before you start needing gears and/or a tranny.

I have a LS...but probably doesn't make a difference.
I guess i learn from my mistakes..didn't think skipping 3rd would make that big of a deal..

Well damn..car is already at the dealer and there working on it...

well there gonna have to tear apart the tranny.. cause the grinding is as stated above a synchro issue.. cause well they use ring's and teeth to speed up the gear your going into and slow down the gear your coming from..

Third gear felt bad cause he felt like you didn't need him so he just figured, screw you your on your own...............

Let us know what the dealer sez when you get it back...........

^ thats what i was wondering..

But yeh..called the dealer and they ordered new synchros today and should be in monday.
Plus im getting a new tire because mine popped somehow...and there touching a bad paint spot on my car, from when i bought it.

So when i down shift i should (when im in 4th) i should use 3rd..then go to second..then use brakes because your not supposed to use 1st when downshifting.

Heh..and i just oredered my intake..heh..intake should be here when my car comes home

Sounds like a synchro...

and there's nothing wrong with skipping gears...

but try skipping 4th instead of 3rd... I find it works much better.

They couldn't find the grind?
warm up the car for like 20 minutes..go drive around.
Mine doesn't do it right away either..always gotta drive around a bit.
Try that maybe?

WHY are you going into 4th gear AT 20 MPH??? NOOOOOOOOO NOT EVEN AT 30 UGH cmon people! This is so bad on your transmission. And so is downshifting so much... cmon, don't we all know that brakes are MUCH MUCH cheaper to replace than transmissions and/or clutches?????

why are you in 4th at 20? you're shifting WAY too low. that's putting a lot of extra stress on your car. i bet tht has something to do with your problem. i'm usually not in 4th untill at a minumum 50-60

3rd gear at 30mph...that sounds really high...
specially for cruising across down doing a constant 30.

3rd gear at 30 sounds high? in 2nd gear that's about 3,000 rpms. 3rd gear is about 2,000. that sounds high? you shouldn't be in 4th at that low of speeds.

the whole reason why you have gears is so that you can keep the engine in it's efficiency range. what you're doing is intentionally putting it out. we have very long gears in our car. some car 4th at 30 would be fine. for us that's very low. what do you shift at like 700-900rpms?

Heh never even considered.

that's called burning the clutch. don't do that anymore if you've going to downshift, learn to rev match.

i got an ls and once u hit 2k rpm a light comes on telling u to upshift, so no hes not out of the effiency range. and also, ur second gear last up to 70 mph or so, ours last till around 45-50
