What to look for?
What to look for?
So, I am in a shopping center getting ready to leave after having done some shopping.
There is a fair amount of traffic coming from the main road and consequently the traffic in the shopping center parking lot is moving fairly slowly.
Well, I pull up behind what looks to be a late 80's early 90's Honda Accord.
I thought nothing of this.
We were both waiting in line at a stop sign (the Honda in front of me) looking to get out of the shopping center.
The girl in the honda gets a break, and decides to start pulling out. It was at this time she realized that she was cutting someone off when she jumped out there as the person she cut off proceeded to lean on their horn.
The girl (a young driver born in 1989) decides her best course of action is to throw her car in reverse and back up without looking.
So she backed into me fairly hard, at between 5-7 mph.
We all get out (I had my Wife and mother-in-law in the car with me) and inspect the damage.
There is very little. her car wasnt hurt at all. My front liscence plate is bent, and there are some scuffs on the paint, but other than that, no visable damage.
I am fairly certain the scuffs on the paint will come out, but my question to everyone is, is there anything else I should look for?
The car drives fine, I checked the inter(after)cooler and its not damaged or anything. I checked under the hood, headlights still aligned properly, intake still in place, nothing looks bent or cracked.
Is there anything else I should check?
*Fake Edit* I did get her insurance information just in case, and she didnt take mine.
I am worried though about calling my insurance company because A: It happened in a parking lot (Private Property) B: Aside from my witnesses, there is no one else that stopped or anything, so basically, if the girl decides to be an ass, there is little I can do to prove she reversed into me and that I didnt rear end her.
Again, there is seemingly nothing more than cosmetic damage, but what do you all think?

Yeah, I mean, everything looks fine, and it drives the same, I just wasnt sure if there was anything in the bumper that I need to worry about.
I should probably check to make sure my air filter is still on...

The foam insert behind the bumper cover and before the crash bar may have cracked.
Thats its sole purpose in a low speed bump, is to absorb the energy before it gets to metal parts. If you dont wanna mess with it no big deal, i'd take it apart and glue it back together to keep it from squeeking, or replace it if its in chunks.

Part #6
I wouldn't be too worried about anything else really being wrong. However, it is always a good idea to get a police report in any accident no matter how small. It would be especially handy in this case. Technically you are responsible for the front end of your car so based on the damage it would seem that you are liable. However, she was in reverse and backed into you. Unfortunately without a statement and a police report, there is no proof unless she is willing to fess up to the insurance company. Just a note for next time to keep in mind.

I have have to disagree with everybody on this one. Yeah, you might have a hard time getting proof that she reversed back into you, BUT she may admit to it to her insurance company. I dunno, the way I look at it, you're car is NOT the same way it was (no matter how small the damage) before she hit you. So, I'd file a claim through her insurance. Whether or not they accept responsiblity is up to them, but you should at least file it. Hell, the wife and I got into an arguement over this last year when some hick with a trailer backed into her car, she let the guy go with a "it's not that bad" attitiude, but I say **** that, HE DAMAGED THE CAR and it's his responsibility to fix it.
I dunno, maybe I'm just a **** and expect my car to stay perfect unless I damage it.....

^^^ Well, I appreciate that attitude. If I didnt do it, then damn right they should fix it.
I guess, its mostly because in Maryland, if it happens in a parking lot, it is 95% percent of the time no fault and it is the responsibility of each party to get their own damage fixed.
I really dont need my insurance company finding fault with me, seeing as how I have 3 points on my liscence, and dont really want any kind of rate increase.
I mean, i have a good relationship with them, and they absolutely hook me up on rates.
Secondly, I did this exact thing when i was 16 (10 years ago) and the lady I hit said no damage, dont worry about it.
Maybe this is just Karma.
If my car was any worse for the wear, I would pursue it, but since its not, I dont think I will pursue it.
i just wanted to make sure that there wasnt something I was forgeting.
