Wheel Bearings

Anyone had their wheel bearings go bad yet?

I think mine are starting to.

The car is kinda quiet when turning left, but if i'm going straight it makes a kind of rubbing noise which gets worse as I turn right.

I have 43,000 miles on my car.

I'm like 98% sure it's my wheel bearings, i'm just wondering if anyone else's has gone bad this soon.

yea, most likley a l/f wheel bearing/hub assembly......quick check, jack the car up.....try wiggle the wheel from top and bottom and see if there's any play in there.

I think cobalts bearing are press fit, which I have never done, but know its alot harder than the old school bearings on the rotor.

Yes it should wiggle top to bottom. If it does, even a little, jack up the car and check the other side. You will be able to tell if its normal or not, I have never had two bearings go out at the same time. Just had one replaced on my fiances focus, cost 380 ******* dollars, most of which was labor.

Most certainly did, I priced out the wheel bearings and hub, It was 90 dollars. So figure the markup about 150 percent- puts parts around 150. Then 2 or 3 hours labor plus tax. The part that sucked was the fact that my girl had to be in binghamton the very next day for a national test for teachers, so I was **** up a creek. Had to work in two hours and wouldnt have time to attempt it so what the hell could I do?

If its anything like that focus youve got to take apart the whole front tire to get that hub out, get the old bearing out and press fit a new one in. I dont know if they make a hub kit that comes with the bearing all ready pressed, Ill bet they do then it wont be so bad. Ford doesnt have a hub kit with the bearing pressed, go figure cause focuses are such piles.

i have the exact same problem right now. turn left, quiet. straight or right, loud as hell and lots of vibration in the steering wheel. checked everything. everything is tight, sway bar, cv joint, rotors n pads are good, now wiggle top to bottom though, wheel spins freely. i'm still not exactly sure what is wrong.

Did you check the other tire as well? Does it make all the noise and wiggle with the brakes on too because that would hold your wheel straight and reduce it.

Mine probably is too. If I'm taking a slight right turn at ~10mph, it sounds NASTY

I don't think I have enough weight in my body to torque down something that hard lmao.

I have just enough weight to torque down the lug nuts if I stand on the ratchet and give it a quick jump

yes, only thing different was the front right wheel wiggled a bit left to right...not top to bottom. the left side did not do that.

OMG jumping on the wrench on lug nuts is not really a recommended practice
I've snapped them just with the lug wrench by hand
