Whining (not supercharger!)

Ok guys, I just took my car in for service, and it makes a weird whining noise, not the supercharger, it makes the noise with speed, and not engine RPMS, anyone have any ideas??

No, I always coast to a stop in neutral, and if i put it in any gear, i put in second.

My old tranny used to make a whining noise only on the highway. Is a pretty quiet? When I got my new tranny in June, it hasnt made it since. Anyone know if theres any kinda of diffrence between 06 and 07 trannys?

Yea my 2.2 did that too. When I talked to the service guy who rode along with me, he said its not supposed to sound like it does right now.

It is that loud, that I can hear it over my exhaust. Can't hear the supercharger that well over the exhaust, but I can hear that damn whining noise loud and clear.

I'll venture a guess....either a tire noise, or a wheel bearing

It very well could be a wheel bearing or a tire noise, but it comes from both front sides, what are the chances that both wheel bearings are shot?? When the car is in neutral, it still makes the same noise. And it is def coming from the front.

well, I'm a tech. at a gm dealership....you'd be suprised how often the bearings are replaced lol. Also, if it is a tire noise...it could make noise from both sides depending how your alignment is, and how your tires are wearing.....keep up posted

Well I have an update as to the status of my car. The lady in the service department called me today, and said the tech thinks it is coming from the transmission, so they are taking it out, and tarring it down to find out what is wrong Now I am stuck with this crappy Chevy Prism until it is fixed!

dude..they have to give you a rental since the vehicle is "not safe to drive" especially since they're taking more then one day to fix it...you are under warranty right?

I notice if you use transaxle fluid other than the GM kind that comes in the bottle with the Saturn logo you'll get a whine from the transmission.
