Won't start, theft lock symbol on

I haven't drove the car in 24hrs, and I went to start the car and the frickin theft symbol is on, only when I try to turn the key in the ignition. I tried locking, unlocking several times and it doesn't work. Last time this happened was last week, the first time. I unhooked the battery for a half hour and re hooked, and it started right up.

Anyone know why its doing this?

Something with the theft system forgetting the key I believe, at least that how it was with my GA. To reset it, you need to stick the key in, turn it to start, and let the key sit in the ON position for 10 minutes, the light will start to blink. Turn the key back to OFF, and then turn it and it should start right up.

Let me know how that works.

I read the manual, and I followed the procedure. Not starting. Do you honestly think I want to have my car towed to a dealership I have never worked with, very far away from my home? I'm only posting here because it's my last resort to try anything someone suggests (within reason).

usually that happens because the computer in the car doesnt recognize the chip in the key thinkin it being stolen it will not start ive seen it several times on other cars prolly need to use a dif key or get new ones

Maybe the alarm is screwed up, or the ignition? because my keys are fine from what I can see to the naked eye. I have 48k miles, and it's a 2007. Looks like it's out of warranty.

What does the BCM do?

could be due to low voltage battery. try changing your battery. itll be cheaper than towing your car. i know the corvettes have problems with the security column lock due to low battery voltage.

Checked that too. Voltage is fine! Anything else? I don't really need my car down here in AL, I'm just doing PME but it is nice to have freedom to go off base.

your ignition module is going bad (thats what i was told by the deal). They wanted to charge like $400+ to replace it. My fix is to lock the car up; press the arm button and leave it for like 30mins. Then go back and try again. if it doesn't work repeat step 1 but wait longer it will eventually go away.

It your anti-theft deterrent. it basically thinks your trying to steal the car because the pins in the ignition, somehow, rolled the wrong way or not enough.

BCM is what controls most of the body functions of the car.

BCM is just worst case cenario thou.. that just happens to be whats wrong with mine cuz of some wires shortin out. but it was doin the exact same thing yours is doin now thou.

well. you can try to put the key in the ignition with it on for 30 minutes, not 10. you have to do it for 30 since you cant reprogram the theft module. try that. if it doesnt work then you need to get it to a dealership, theres nothing else you can do without programing capabilities.

Car wouldn't start again. Same problem, so I had it towed to the local dealer.

They claim that my "aftermarket" parts were causing it to not start. That's a completely different story than what they told me on the phone. They disconnect my air/fuel gauge, and my boost gauge lighting, and I HOPE they did not disconnect my intercooler pump because that's what keeps the S/C cool. They weren't able to answer whether they disconnected it or not. So for now, I'm leaving them unplugged and if the car doesn’t start again then I told them I'm not paying for another tow job because I really don't think that this was the problem. Anyway, class at 3pm. I will have to check the IC pump wiring tomorrow after class, until then I'm not driving under boost.

Programming new key

Master key 30min procedure...car starts and immediately shuts off now. So i tried to program key again and anti theft icon will not shut off during or after the 10 minute steps for programming does the car need to be left alone now that i screwed it up??

So the theft car symbol isn’t on when I’m driving but when I take the keys out it pops up and won’t turn off? Car keeps unlocking and locking by itself!
Anyone know why its doing this?[/QUOTE]

Not sure if this is relative or not but when I use my viper remote start, that little anti theft light flashes WHILE IM DRIVING IT lol. The only way to turn it off is to turn the car off. I've tried researching if it's bad for the car or not but I've found nothing. Also doesn't affect performance whatsoever it's just annoying as heck.

Alarm going off car won't turn over

2006 Chevy cobalt. Battery isn't old. Only have 1key, no fob. Everytime I open the doors my alarm goes off, put the key in and turn to turn it off and on my way. Today I unlock the door, alarm goes off, put the key in and turn and car won't start. Took the horn fuse out and car starts. Few hours later, car won't start but the alarm doesn't make noise anymore. Need a cheap fix I can do myself. Haven't tried to disconnect battery or jump yet. Will try first in the morning if it doesn't start again. Really think its an alarm issue and not the battery. It doesn't turn over at all.
