Yes another vibration problem.
Yes another vibration problem.
OK so i have an 05 ls sedan. I just put new brakes and rotors on it. Well right after i started having a problem with a vibration after driving for like 45 mins to work. It shakes the **** out of the steering wheel and the brake pedal gets stiff as hell. I after pull off highway and pump the brakes a little bit and it goes away. The dealership where my dad works at says it is probably the steering column module that controls TC and ABS. Please help it is getting really annoying.
More than likely my man it is your tires are whooped and out of balance. If I were you I would rotate them and see if the vibration stops. Also you should get all of your rims balanced. How old are the tires?
Wear and tear. You got high miles, nothing last forever and crashing probably sped up the life on the suspension. I'm telling you, the tires are prob causing vibration because of the belt inside the tire. Also a wheel balance would be wise. Try it and see what happens. It's really cheap to balance tires.
I got a whole steering column for 50 dollars so we are gonna change that out see if it fixes it. That's what 3 of the top service techs said it was. And they have no reason to lie or try to sell something cause i am doing it myself.
If it was RIGHT after you put your brakes on, FIRST thing I would do is take off the rims and put them back on, tightening the lugs to proper TQ in a star pattern, believe it on now but I've seen vibrating issues like that due to over tightening lugs.
Hmm, no idea. To be honest my buddy is experiencing the same problem in an ION and no one could figure it out for some reason. He's tried balancing, rebalancing, wheel spacers, etc... goes away for the most part with winter steelies though so I'm guessing it's a rim + tire combo issue..
If you say it is my rotors. PLease explain why it doesn't do it all the time. And it doesn't matter what speed i am going. And explain to me why my brake peddle gets stiff as hell like my abs is kicking in. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything here. I just want an explanation as to why the rotor would make it do what it is doing.
When you have a slightly warped rotor, you won't feel it when the car is rolling, but there is something happening. The pads are contacting the rotor at that same spot with every rotation. As a result, over a little bit of time, that spot of the rotor will become hot, unevenly from the rest of the rotor, and that will cause a further increase in the warp due to uneven heat distribution. That is when you start to feel it vibrating, especially in the steering wheel, because the rotor is bumping the brake with every rotation and transmitting the force into the steering.
A brand new rotor can get warped very easily in the beginning if it is installed on a dirty hub or with any kind of slight misalignment during installation.
