Car cleaner?
Car cleaner?
Hey guys im really close to getting my new cobalt ss tc and ive been wondering. What would be the best way to clean it. What brands do you guys use, like turtle wax, armor all, or meguiars. What are your guys's experiences with them?
No armor all for your interior. Alot of people don't know that it makes your dash crack over time. turtle wax ice is ok for the fact that you can use it in direct sunlight and it leaves no residu but it dont work worth a ****. Use a carnuba paste style wax that is what works best. As for a carwash i have no idea
ICE liquid polish by turtle. Its really easy to apply and wipe off. No residue whatsoever! great of black/dark cars. I have a black cobalt BUT for full effect you need to put at least 2 good coats on. Make sure you wait the 4 or 5 minutes before wiping off. Great beads of water when washing or raining.
I really like the Meguiars NXT line of products, they are all I use.
Wash: Meguiars NXT Generation Wash
Wax: Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0
Inside: Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Protect
Tires: Meguiars NXT Generation Insane Shine Tire Coating
Windows: Meguiars NXT Generation Glass Cleaner
I probably go a bit overboard with their stuff but I really like the results, keeps the car looking like this:

Even 8 months later it still shines up just like that.

Ice wax is decent. Thats about as far as it goes imo...
I use a Meguiar's wash, Meguiar's #26 wax, Armor All tire gel, Meguiar's Natural Shine interior spray, Lexol, Invisible Glass, and Black Magic liquid spray for the wells...

Nice car...yeah i use Meguiar's wax too
Silicone will NOT crack your dash, your tires, or anything else for that matter. There is a huge variety of silicones used in automotive surface care products, and for a variety of reasons. These silicones are inert ingredients - they don't really "do" anything on their own but are used to enhance or improve the characteristics of another ingredient. In some cases it's a gloss enhancement, but in many cases it's just a flow enhancer - meaning it helps make a product easier to spread and apply or easier to remove. It is very rare to find a vinyl, rubber, or plastic dressing that is completely silicone free.
The same thing holds true for petroleum distillates - a very broad term that encompasses very strong cleaners/degreasers/solvents all the way down to the stuff blended into Chap Stick. People tend to lump petroleum distillates into a single group, and that is simply not the case. It's like saying all plants are the same. Well, lettuce is a plant, and so is poison ivy but they certainly are not the same thing.
Another common misconception is people claiming they're using a "water based" product and not "silicone based". I don't believe there any products on the market that are really silicone based, but most water based products contain silicone. Even a lot of the "boutique" brands that people gladly pay a premium for contain silicone. I got into this debate on another car forum when one guy claimed silicone was horrible stuff, would crack your dash, blah blah blah. He said he only used BRAND X on his car because it's water based and even after 5 years of very regular use, his dash and door panels still looked like new. Uh huh. I contacted BRAND X and asked for their MSDS info on the product. It contains twice the level of silicone found in Meguiar's Natural Shine. When I pointed this out to the guy he never responded again. Nice.
disclaimer, in case anyone thinks one is needed here: I work for Meguiar's

Why shouldnt you use turtle wax?? i find nothing wrong with it. The only downfall is that it doesnt last as long as others but it works great and gives an awesome shine on my BLACK cobalt
