Engine Bay Clean

What do you guys figure is the best way to clean the dirty/dust out of the engine bay. THe no way of doing it with a cloth/bucket of water, but I just dont want to take a hose and go wild. What do you guys sudgest?

??? how do you guys do it???

Plz4Camaro 04-19-2009 09:14 PM

i drove into my pool and did a burnout

Jared B 04-19-2009 09:17 PM

i use armor all wipes and my engine bay is spotless

krazycobalt 04-19-2009 11:58 PM

haha well i guess if I had a pool i would consider that! Would it be possible to have the hsoe on low low pressure and run it on the sides of the engine bay?

go to a car wash and spray it down with the "engine cleaner" that they should have as an option.

hatrickstu 04-20-2009 01:03 AM

super clean, wash, soap, water, win:

If engine bays weren't meant to get wet they'd be sealed from the bottom

A little soap and water isn't going to kill anything... If you're that worried cover your air filter & fuse box/ECM before you start.

i spray my shit with the hose, never had a problem.

Also, be careful when using the engine cleaner hose, it took all the black stuff off the random sticky panel on the passenger side shock tower. What does that black thing even do?

I'm talking about the triangular aluminum? piece on the shock tower just behind my lovely 15mm wrench.

just dont try and spray water up in the box and filter and you will be fine. reign is right

i always tell people that when they're worried about water in the engine bay. then they use the pressure excuse.

How fast do you think that water is hitting stuff at 80mph on the freeway in the rain?

Just don't hold the nozzle 2 inches away from everything.

krazycobalt 04-20-2009 01:22 AM

Okay that was the answer that I was looking for. BTW our car wash's suck ass haha so will the regular pressure at a normal car wash work or should I do it at home with the garden hose. Also using soap.... just the soap option at a car wash or is there some different/special/better shit?

Yeah, regular pressure at a wand wash is fine. Just don't hold it 2" away from shit, as was already stated.

As a rule of thumb (for me), I always just keep from spraying any sort of pressure directly on the fuse box or ECU. Garden hose, I don't mind hitting it.

As for the soap...I've always preferred just using soapy water, getting it wet, wiping it down, and rinsing.

there's usually an engine/tire setting. use it, it works great, but only on the engine, nothing else.

SSSCEnthusiast 04-20-2009 03:08 AM

In all honesty, I tire shine the HELL out of mine.

Not only does it work, it lasts a while, and then when it gets dirty again it's really easy to whipe off with a microfiber or even a california duster.

dragonslayer27 04-20-2009 03:20 AM

I just spray mine down with simple green. Rinse, simple green, wait a while, and rinse again.

Killa SS 04-20-2009 03:26 AM

what do u guys suggest i do being i have the hahn kit and the intake is right in the engine bay?

dragonslayer27 04-20-2009 03:32 AM

i would say cover it with a plastic bag and tie it closed, and probably wrap several times, better safe then sorry.

Killa SS 04-20-2009 03:33 AM

k. a couple garbage bags zip ties and or duct tape would work nicely. lol

dragonslayer27 04-20-2009 03:36 AM

yea that's what i would do.

RBC 04-20-2009 03:45 AM

also its good practice not to spray directly into the alternator.
