engine cleaning?

I just sprayed some engine cleaner and degreaser (pyro or something) on my engine, and it didn't really seem to do anything? It's dark so I can't really see much, but I can still see it's dirty. It has like all this white crap on it. Any ideas what to use to clean the engine since this didn't work?

Don't got a pressure washer. That's it? Just simple green? Wow. That thing cleans anything huh? I have this rim cleaner that smells and looks exactly like simple green.

When doing any kind of engine cleaning, its best to have a set of brushes (soft bristled paint brushes will work) to agitate any sort of stuck on grime. A lot of the time, the cleaners will break down most of the grease and grime, but to get it all, you have to agitate it a little bit.

I use Meguiar's APC cut 4:1, and some paint brushes to clean my engine bay. Then I just rinse away the excess with a garden hose. After that, I dress all the rubbers and plastics with 303 Aerospace Protectant, applied with a foam applicator. Does a pretty good job, I'd say

Gunk brand Engine brite.

http://www.gunk.com/

Spray it on

Let it sit for 5-10 mins

Hose it off with the garden hose

It works great!

Not really, just don't soak it real bad. Let it dry up pretty good before starting to avoid belt slippage and wear.

Not the engine, but don't soak your filter if you have aftermarket or don't completely soak your electrical components.

yea im hesitant to give it a shot, but i have read somewhere that in newer cars as long as you dont soak everything to bad it really shouldnt hurt anything.

Just look at as your engine getting wet from driving in a rain storm, same thing.

just dont soak your air filter or spray drectly into the electrical conections with the pressure washer.

Oh the newer the cars the more protected they are. We have been getting some heavy rains lately and it was so bad the other day my belt was slipping bad. Thank you Injen filter for not sucking water, so it goes to show you, don't put direct pressure for an extended amount of time and your good, just a quick rinse with a pressure washer or garden hose.

everyone keeps saying not to spray the electrical components, but if you look at the engine there are wire harnesses and electrical parts everywhere. Also it is not the same as a rain storm, because if i go lift hood when its raining my enginge is not wet. only the bottom is...
