First ever detail

I woke up today planning to wash and wax my car, clean it all over, the works. Went over to the girlfriends house, they have lots of shade. Spent way too much time doing the **** she wanted to do and when I finally got around to starting the wash, she tells me they have no soap. Mission Failed. Now Im planning to do it tomorrow before sunrise. If anyone has any tips, it'd be greatly appreciated. Also, how long should it take? Anyways, heres what I got.

Mothers claybar kit: claybar, instant detailer (lubrication for the claybar), and carnauba wax

Meguiars 3 step system: Paint cleaner, polish, and carnauba wax

Well thats if you go all out which after 2 - 3 hours you probably wont want to. . . .

Maybe you should just try a wash, clay, and wax first.

huh? what do you mean the rest of the stuff? Waxing should be your final, complete step. Theres nothing to do after that, otherwise you just wasted your time waxing!

Vacuuming, dash, tires, etc. takes 15-30

I thought wash, clay, and wax took 2-3 hours total

Take your time! Taking proper care of your paint/clearcoat is as important as painting the car. Do it when you can have a full day to spend on it. A few sundays ago I washed, clayed, washed, dried, waxed our durango and it took me from 2pm to 9pm, with a 45min dinner break.
