Valve cover sanding
I thought polished parts transferred heat better? I think it will be fine polished, you know my build plans, Im only going for 230ish. Not building a race car.
I was just wondering if you could do it with sand paper and water, or if you need to buy the polishing kit. I know it would probably yield better results though.

polishing holds heat in...i havent been the scientist on this but from a decade of information from old muscle heads with years upon years the recommendation for best performance is paint under it with white paint and powder coat the top with black (if ur gonna do the top) because white has the best heat transfer and black dissipates (sp?) heat the best...
not saying its wrong to do..i had a polished m62 lol...

I wouldnt think the color would actually matter.....I know that black cars tend to be hotter when left in the sunlight because it absorbs the sun's rays better. As far as having the valve covers one color or another, no that sounds like nonsense to me. Your first mistake was listening to old muscle heads, I've heard more nonsensical **** spew from those guys mouths than some Honda owners. lol, kidding.
As far as powdercoating VS polishing, I dont think either would matter at our level. In a 10 second car, maybe, just maybe it would matter but I dont think if you were on here wishing to make a 10 second car you wouldnt be asking a question like that :-)

ok let me come save ravens ass....
when metal is not polished "dull" looking it is because there are littl pieces protruding....in a sense this creates more surface area which allows heat to dissipate faster....polished has less surface area....
but i dont think the valve cover's temp is that big of a deal anyways.
also OP
your conna have to start with like 400-500 and end with 2000-4000 then use a compound then a polish...
