Water Runs Won't Come Off...
Water Runs Won't Come Off...
So, I just gave my car a really good wash and whatnot...
I wiped it pretty dry, and it looked fine. But once it dried, it looked pretty much like before, but worse.
I'm not getting water spots, they are more like run marks, but I don't get it since the car was pretty much dry when I left it and this looks like I just let it dry without doing anything to it. It's on both the windows and the paint.
I rinsed the car again, and wiped it down again but they came back. I used that Stoner's Invisible Glass on the windows and it did nothing.
Help! What can I use to get this cleared up? I have a black car so it's super crappy looking right now.
Edit - I just used some quick detailer, and it looks a lot better. But I'll still claybar it tomorrow...
EDIT the 2nd - I just used a claybar and waxed it. Looks amazing. Pics tomorrow.
Here is a pic of the hood...

What are you drying it with?? When your wiping it down you might be creating streaks. Buy a schammy when it starts streaking ring it out and then keep on going. If thats not the case then sorry for wasting your time.
Agreed Claybar and wax. Miguires gold series is what i found works best. Clay bar will get rid of all the imputities that the paint pores pick up. then use a wax to protect it. For winter weather do about 3 or for coats of a polymer or polymer blend. works best against salt and all the other things that DOT uses for the road. Caranuba gives a good shine but protection don't last to long in the winter. Gold series is a polymer/caranuba blend best of both worlds and works great!
For your windows your can water spot treat them with some Fine Fine Steel wool and glass cleaner. I use the invisible glass as well with it works awsome! if not mothers has this Aluminum and mag polish for like 5 bucks that stuff works really well too! After removing the spots protect it with Rain-x or Stoner has a product called "Speed Bead" thats an aroesel spay wax. works good too.
Try this and it Should help you out.

go get a little spray bottle then take the clay bar in one hand while spraying the surface wet with water and then taking the clay bar and using that, then go buy meguars or whatever wax you wanna use i use the 3 step meguar process if i really need a wax and it should be out for sure then
that's not true. you just want to wash the car first, and make sure you use a quick detail spray. as long as you keep the car well lubed, you won't have a problem.

I use the detailer after the clay bar, thing is the clay bar leaves some residue behind which i just clean up with the detailer in the end
go get a buffer those look like easy marks to get out

that's after a wax? are you sure you used wax? it def. shouldn't look like that at all. it probably wasn't dry when you put the wax on. walk us through step by step what you did.
but there is still chance for some dirt to be on the surface or in the water. Thats just what i've been taught to believe and its a logical theory so i use the extra procaution.
Washed.
Dried.
(Washed mom's car...)
Freaked out.
Sprayed down car, and dried again.
Ran out of daylight, let car sit overnight in garage.
Waxed.
Used Invisible Glass on windows in attempt to clean.
Made thread.
haha.

turtle ice is garbage. wash the car, dry the car GOOD, and if you're not going to claybar, wax the car immediately don't let it sit. pick up either meguirs or mothers wax, it's much better than the ice stuff.
I've been planning on getting some Meguires, but was going to use up the Ice stuff first. Looks like I'll just get the new stuff anyways.
Looks like I'll be spending tomorrow re-doing my car. bah.

For water spots and road grime on the exterior of the windows, an old trick is to use a product called Barkeepers Friend. It is a cleanser but will not scratch like Comet or BonAmi. Just wet down the windshield and sprinklle some on half the window, take a sponge and just clean like your cleaning with a regular window cleaner. It will paste up a bit, just wipe it on and rinse it off. If you get that cruddy grime on the windshield from thrown up spray after driving in the rain, it works wonders.
After you get it clean you'll find that if you use the Stoners Invisible Glass Cleaner, on a regular basis, water will bead up and becomes a lot easier to clean after washing. As far as the body, you might try a product called Honda Polish and Cleaner. Available at any Honda Motorcycle dealer, comes in a spray can. Stuff works better than any detailer. Spray it on, let it sit for 20-30 seconda, and wipe it off, and buff. Leaves no residue, and wipes right off rubber and plastic. Most any biker in the know keeps a can in the saddlebags. Used it for years on my black Harley and now my black Goldwing. Probably work great on your black paint.
This is stuff I've been using for many years, and would not pass on if it didn' work. I may be a newbie here, but have been playing with and detailing my cars for over 40 years, and understand just how you guys feel bout your cars.
