My name is Trey, basically the main founder of Gulf Coast ECOtecs. We're based out of Gulfport, MS. We're a newly formed club, just starting in the fall of last year, and we're looking to branch out to our fellow ECOtec enthuisiasts on the Gulf Coast. We just conquered Mobile, AL with our First Annual USS Alabama Meet. We had a great turn out of over 15 ECOtecs based cars from 3 different states, as well as two other local car clubs: Team Fukaru from Hattiesburg, MS and MA Racing from Mobile, Al.

We've been discussing the destination of our next meet, and I'm liking the idea of coming to New Orleans. When we have meets like this, we usually like to plan to gather at a spot where everyone can have fun and enjoy themselves, as well as take some time to get to know everyone and their cars.

I've set my sights on the Audubon Zoo, Aquarium, Insectarium, and IMAX theatre ( http://www.auduboninstitute.org/ ). As of today, I haven't brought up this idea to the club, but we're having a meeting this weekend with our sponsor. I'll bring it up then. The purpose of this thread is to see how active the car scene is in this area and to see if anyone in Louisiana would be willing to meet up with us for a cruise and fun day down in New Orleans.

At our last meet, we had people make 800 mile round trips to come and hang out with us, enjoy a tour of the ship, and everything that came along with it. I'll keep this thread posted with information as it becomes available. I'm aiming to kick this meet off in late April/early May.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments please feel free to post them here. We encourage all of the ECOtecs to come. However, we're a friendly, laid-back group, so we encourage all car clubs in the area that are available to come to please do so. We like meeting people and making friends.

just an FYI all the parts of the audobon institute are not connected. the IMAX and the Aquarium are in the same building the zoo is its own entity on one side of town and the insectarium is also its own building. the insectarium and aquarium are downtown... where there is nice urban photo ops and the zoo is uptown which is more old time french style houses, tall oaks, ect. there is great food everywhere needless to say. Just let me know a day preferably a weekend cause i work nights but obviously what ever works best for everyone else. any other questions i either know or could find out i am in the city a few days a week.

Dates are still undecided, and it will be set on a weekend for everyone's convience. Anthony, we can stop in Baton Rouge just for you lol besides, I've been talking to a girl over there that's with a scion tC club called Scikotics. I'd like for them to come as well.

I plan on leaving early in the morning for this. I'm willing to travel from the zoo to the aquarium building. Of course, I don't know my way around town, so some help getting from place to place would be great! Bump for the morning people!

trey im not sure about now but they uset to have a river boat that you could take from the zoo or near by it, to the aquarium. im not sure how much it would cost but we could find out.

I'm curious. Who is the lakefront meet being organized by? Not that it's too soon, it's that we like to host our own events and things of that matter. If we're invited we'd more than happily come, but this event that we're planning will still take place even if it has to be set at a later date. Two trips down there too close together could possibly be too much for some of us.

Your ideas then? Get ready to be a big part of this car show. Every local GCE member should prepare to help organize and host such an event. We'll need a location, categories of show, places and prizes, etc, etc...

 

its not really organized by one person. its kind of local groups. its just something we do every year. i would say there are about 100 cars +/-. its the biggest thing around here we do. well that and IFO at noproblem raceway.

 

That sounds pretty good then... As long as everyone is cool to hang out with and stuff like that then that sounds good.
