Walnut blasting in Metro Atlanta

Hey. My '10 SS/TC is has over 82k miles in it now and I would like to get the intake valves blasted clean. Anyone know of someone capable/trustworthy of doing this in Metro Atlanta? Any help is appreciated.

Have you taken the IM off before? If so, you can do this yourself. It's not that hard, just takes some time. Save some $$.

We have an intake removal guide and valve cleaning guide. Both very useful.

Oh and you can use GM upper engine cleaner and soak the valves instead of walnut blasting.

There are much harder jobs to do than this. It's just time consuming.

I’m going to assume you have access to a vacuum and compressor. You can pick up a blaster for $15-$50 which will work just fine. Media is $50 for a huge bag and if you don’t want a mess you can just buy the adapter off ecstuning.com. It’s really easy to do it just takes a while. Some wire brushes and picks will help as well.

Buying the adapter is definitely a better option compared to prepping it with plastic drop sheets

Yea.....I don't have a compressor. I guess I can go to HF and pick one up. I wasn't in the mood to invest in any more tools even though I prefer to do it myself. I guess I'll start picking up the necessary items to get this done.

Thanks

You can have really good results with chemicals, brushes, and picks if you don't want to spend the coin on a compressor. OTOH, this can be a good excuse to buy one. Check craigslist also.

Not sure if that link turns out all wonky in here but basically just type in extraction adapter and those 2 parts are what you need. The adapter that goes in the valve port is slightly too small but once you hook up the vacuum, the suction holds it in place.

Blaster worked great, bought 25lbs. of fine walnut and my first worry was would I have enough, I had at least 20lbs. left. Only took seconds of blasting to clean each port. I wrapped some duct tape around snout of my adapter to fit my ports better, job was very easy. The blasting was the quickest part of the whole job. I never pulled plugs or coils, hooked a remote starter switch to my starter since it is pretty much in your face when you get the intake off and just bumped engine over enough to close the only set of valves that were open, other 3 sets were closed.
