Stock Tire & Wheel Weight Q

Does anyone know how much the stock 18 inch wheel and tire weighs on the Cobalt SS/SC?

48 pounds, where did you get that info from? 48 pounds seems like alot. I think some 19inch wheels and tires weigh less...

Reason why I ask is I think those Momo rims weigh 17 pounds. Add tires and maybe they will weigh 30 pounds or so each. You would lose about 20 pounds per rim. 60 pounds, another 40 pounds and thats about a tenth faster in 1/4th mile times.

What kind of tire are you putting on that weights only 13lbs? Tires for a set of 17's will weight closer to 20-25 lbs. While your entire post makes my head hurt i'll add this removing rotating mass will be alot more effective then just removing dead weight from the car.

Thats how much they weigh ... and I'm sure there are several lighter wheels out there regardless of size ...do you know why ...its becasue not all wheels have the same volume or density.

So basicly you could lose some weight from bigger wheels if they are not as dense. However the ammount you would lose would probaly be put back because of the larger tires that weigh more?

Well depends on what size/brand tire you choose. Go onto tirerack.com and compare weights of tires.

The stock rim weights 24 pounds and the tire weights 24 lbs. 17 inch wheels is where performance pretty much ends. Less rotating mass equals better performance. Its less weight to spin plus you are knocking off your total curb weight. I'm looking for 18s just because I like the looks plus I would have to lower my car cause it would look stupid with more wheel gap. Somewhere in the 17-20lb range is what I'm lookin for.

I want to find 19s that weigh about 20 or less pounds. That may be a very hard task...I think 19s look best on our cars.

I weighed my stock tires and wheels in at 50lbs even. My Rota's and Toyo's weighed in at 40lbs even.
