i know, for the 2006 models the 2.2 is the only engine with the egr valve. its on the mount thats Welded on the stock header.

i had the pacesetter header on, its fine, unless u dont wana look at a check engine lite.

i guess just caping it off is what ill do

Are you sure your not looking at the O2 sensor. Because it should be on top of your exhaust manifold. As far as I know cobalts do not have an egr system.

I hope that the 2006 2.2 doesnt have an erg... because I dont want to look at a check engine light when I get my header

There is NO EGR on any Ecotec engine. And if there was, it would be in the cylinder head casting, not the exhaust manifold.

can you guys with the egr send me your VIN# the 8th digit , its the motor code

also if you can get any pictures of the egr system attached to the stock manifold

i will need multipal angles

if 1 of you can deal with the check engine light for a while , and send me your stock manifold and egr , tubes

provided you can block off the port for the intake side

and once we mock the header up with the egr stuff once produced , i can send you 1 to swap out

if you would like to do it email me at eremboldt@pacesetterexhaust.com

that almost looks like AIR injection but no ****, I was wondering when they'd bring it back.

what you could do is on the pacesetter on the far right side of the flange is a provision for EGR (with the header facing away from you). maybe you could have it drilled through and a tube and flange welded on, but that's really a lot of work for that, if it really is the EGR. can you take a shot of the rest of the assembly? I'd like to see it if you don't mind, or anyone for that matter

having it gone won't hurt anything really, and it doesn't open at WOT if it's on so it's not like it would cause any problems (until it eventually fails and is stuck open, that's not fun)

thanks for pointing that out though. I know on my 04 2.2 there's a blockoff plate on the head for where that goes

Yes it seems as if the 2006 2.2L have the EGR valve on the manifold. Eric and i have been trying to figure this out. Eric we do have pictures, I will be emailing you of the stock manifold with the egr port.

We have 2 local 2006 2.2L cobalts (coupe and a 4 door) around here that are our customers, I will see if one of them have the EGR.

EGR's haven't been on the ecotec since the first ones in the saturn LS-1 and they were in the headcasting.... who knows...

I know 06 has air injection, but I would think it would be plummed into the cat.

We assure you it is not air injection, it is an EGR valve, that is located on the manifold.

HMM... I thought the 2.0 had an egr but built into the head castin if you look at the exhaustr manifold there is a space by the last cylinder where it looks like it recirculates... but thats just my opinion

pretty much yes , that is if they have the air injection or egr which ever it is on there

if there is no hook ups for anything then there shouldnt be a problem with a CEL

^^^ LOL

well as i mentioned earlier , if some one will put the 70-1272/72c1272 header on their car and deal with the CEL for a while , and send me all the stock , and block the egr on the intake side , and send me pics of the egr pipe routing

ill see if what i can get done , about getting the header set up so that it works with EGR , and ill send the persont that sends the stuff in a header set up for it , as well as all your stock stuff back

exactly how long it will take im not sure at this point , since it depends how long it takes to get everything , and if we need to find a car to test with local , or can just do it all from the stock parts

my email addy is on page 1

You people, I swear to God. I try to help you and all you do is get mad at me...

I am 99% positive I know what is going on here. I will be able to prove it after this weekend when I can get one more picture. First of all, that is NOT an EGR valve. That is simply a mounting provision for EGR PLUMBING. That line would run to the far side of the exhaust ports on the exhaust side of the head. This is the hole in the head where that plumbing would attach, right next to the manifold:

EDIT: It has been determined that is a mount for air injection, not an EGR. Also, the hole in this picture is covered by the exhaust manifold flange when the manifold is attached.

Then the gas would travel through the head casting to the actual EGR VALVE. The valve would then regulate the gas that returns to the intake side. This is what a pre-2005 Ecotec head looks like:

In 2005, they deleted the cross-over from the casting. It now looks like this:

However, the holes in the manifold sides of the heads are still there, they just don't lead to anywhere, they are closed off. Here are the two heads side by side:

This is the part I will verify for you all...What you are looking at there is nothing more then a left-over provision from an earlier design. Let me ask you this. When you removed that manifold, what was attached to that? I bet it was a plumbing line that attached back to the head, right? Guess where that line in the head goes? Nowhere. It's been closed off! Either that, or there was no line, it was just capped off.

THERE IS NO EGR IN THE ECOTEC!!!

You have returned a perfectly normal and usable header. It would have worked fine.
EDIT: This was a cocky statement on my part. It is possible the header design would not work. I'd rather admit I'm wrong then just delete what I said.

Now, does anybody else what to call me out?

Theres no egr. Just because theres a hole there dosent mean something goes. If you ever get under your car you'll see many holes that could be for many things. If you had an EGR system you would see a lot more coming from the back of the engines, more hoses and what not. I was in the shop today looking at mine and the only thing from the exhaust manifold is the O2 sensor.
