Smile Cobalt ss beating a LS (turbo'd) unlikely? Finally proven

I just recently finished a stage one turbo setup (@ 8psi) on my cobalt LS 2.2 ltr. My friend owns a cobalt ss supercharged. So we raced them both 5 times and each time the race went down the same way. The ss supercharge pulled out at the start but my LS turbocharge blew by it at the end. The race was a little over a 1/4 mile long. We also switched and I raced with his ss supercharged and he beat me in my LS turbocharged. So I guess the only time the SS would be faster is in a 50 foot race Can't wait to upgrade to the next stage!

Just a couple of questions for you. Where did you get your turbo kit from and have you got any pics of it...just curious . As well...I hope you're not planning on pushing more than 8psi the next stage without considering rebuilding your internals or you may be terribly surprised when you start tossing rods left right and center.

Talking I don't know what to say

Well I don't intend on upgrading my car anymore because too much more power and I will have to waste lots of money and completely rebuild my engine. The thing is that you can buy a regular base 2.2 and for under $3000 you can not only run with but run away from an SS until your governer kicks in lol (have to get that taken care of). And it gets to the point where even the ss can only run soo much boast before the internals need to be upgraded. I purchased the LS because I thought the SS was a waste of money performance wise. You can only do so much with a supercharger on a 4 cyl. Keyword displacement the 2.2 has more. I would love to see someone turbo a 2.4 VVT that would be sick!

The low compression of the 2.0's pistons (among other upgraded internals) are more boost friendly which allows more boost to be added than the 2.2L.

I'm happy to see the 2.2L engine being upgraded but don't get your hopes up if you line up with a SS running 15 psi, because that is the replacement for displacement.

i doubt well see alot of people running 15psi, on the web im sure it will seem like alot, but in your area, chances of running into a 15psi ss are slim.

No more of a waste of money than what you did to your car. You just killed your warranty, you had to come up with money for the kit, plus make a car payment, and on top of that an SS owner will barely touch his motor and beat you. Good kill anyway.

And yes, An SS has its limits on boost as well, but it's a lot higher than your car which= more potential.

The market is still lagging, after SEMA hopefully we'll see greater availability of performance parts.

Ummm I don't think that finding an SS with 15 psi is slim, considering that's only 3psi more than stock. The $500 Psi-Fi kit boosts it to 17psi.

he just spent about 19000 for a turbod cobalt and you spent hmmm 23+ for ur supercharged? and he beats you? again turbos>supercharger no matter what, not even comparing engines. Warranty? who cares, if you touch your ss you void the warranty also , 2.2 internals are EVERYWHERE, and cheap

Ah okay

I don't want this turning into a stupid agrument

I'd love to see what a turbo could do on the 2.0L, I love the SC sound, but you can increase boost on a turbo much more easily.
