Bring chat back?

from what ive been told a GROUP of male members were harassing an underage female member and it wasn't pretty. i dont know the specifics but that's why the chat is gone now... im just saying there needs to be something to try to prevent that from happening again. A css isn't responsible for live content in chat and insert punishment here (perma ban?) for overly inappropriate conduct.

and that's the problem. if members cant control themselves in the forum how much faster can a problem escalate in a live chat? my idea isnt really a fool proof plan type deal but more so a "dont street race or well crush your car"... make people think twice on where to set the line. talking **** and joking is one thing but its easy to get out of hand so the idea of a punishment (preferably harsh) will help control that and weed out the trolls anyway.

I completely agree. I was on a mazdaspeed forum and they had a chat area on their home page and at any given point there was like 2 mods patrolling it and weren't afraid to toss out a week ban (or more depending on how many times you have been banned) for people getting outta hand.

The chat was supposedly moderated, but this stuff still happened. That's just my personal beef with having a chat. Unless you have guaranteed round-the-clock moderators to control the problems, it's leaving things open for stuff like that to happen again.

My thoughts -
1. Sure, bring chat back. It's a fun and immediate way to connect with others in the "I will sell my left eyeball for that rare part" community.
2. Moderate the room. Set up auto kicks and auto bans for cursing racial and sexually derogatory terminology etc. and establish what type of kick/ban is appropriate for what is being used ahead of time - so that we 'olbie' chatters don't accidentally call our car a "ban-able term" thing, and get perma-banned for it. Now the hard part - Hosting. The room must be monitored by something other than a bot. Some 'one' in fact, a human Moderator must be on site at peak times to give warning/guidance/kicking/banning as needed.
3. Make sure that the ratio of rooms to moderators is such that the rooms don't get out of control, and that the moderators don't become overwhelmed too easily - it is like a babysitting job after all.
