On a local forum, we found the best fix for excessive post whoring was a post count reset. A moderator would just set your post count to a more realistic number if you got carried away. Stopped all the useless blabbering just to fill up internet space.

on another forum I was in, they only counted posts in the important sections and other sections didn't count towards your post count. so you can post all day in the lounge or for sale section. and those posts wouldn't count towards your total.
