Now this only applies to creating brand new threads. Before you are able to click the "Submit New Thread" button, you have to click a little checkbox that says, "I used the search button before I created this thread"

And then if the person posts the thread and it is blatently a searchable issue, that person gets a warning, or whatever instead of warning the people who start talking **** about the newb who didnt search.

I'm on another forum that has this, and it works well. but i'm not so sure it'll work here because of the way people title their threads. you see "WTF" as a thread title just to click it and see that its about rims. if people used proper titles, the search function would be a lot more useful.

the search option is great, it's just that people don't give accurate thread titles many times. someone may have a transmission problem, and the title is "help me please!" instead of "transmission problem: synchros are gone".

if people used more accurate thread titles it would make the search button work much better.

i think that would be as effective as the "have you read all the terms and conditions before installing this game" button.
i mean seriously, how many of us pay attention to that **** anyway

its a good idea, just need a stricter form of execution.
IE, if you post a thread that has been answered before, Css.net dispatches the swat team to bust your house up.

on a serious note, people will search, and just click yes....
because in truth most people dont know how to properly use a search engine in advanced mode.

like this thread that you just created for example... it's a completely non-descriptive title that doesn't tell you anything about the post unless you open it up. that's a HUGE part of the problem.

Increase mod staff.
Impliment a "thread/post" review for people who are known to make posts/threads that are pointless and crap.
Yes, this would take EXTRA EFFORT, but with an increase in "dedicated to doing the right thing" mod staff, it's be a slight hurdle on the road to progress.

Hmm all good points. I would like to see the SWAT team dispatched to a certain few.....

I hear what you are all saying about "hey I have a problem" as the title and you are looking for transmission help. This is good for 2 reasons.

1. Maybe theyll stop ******* posting titles that arent descriptive (yay we can teach them 2 things at once!)
2. This will be EVEN more incentive to use AND master the search button

And if they dont know how to use the search button in advanced mode....THANK GOD then we can weed the dumb ***** out right off the bat!

Im saying ok that little search-when-you-enter-the-title thingy is cool, but Im more concerned with people searching first.

1. If they dont know how to use the search, bam, one less idiot to deal with. You know they're an idiot because they didnt know how to search, we dont need those people around.
2. So they make the new thread anyways, and it is blatently a popular topic. Immediate warning/ban depending on the severity of the dumbassedness.

I can't remember which mustang board it is that i'm a member of, but in any of the technical sections, the year, model, part, and problem are ALL required in the thread title, or it either gets locked, or deleted.

Stop whining about resposts and help people when they need it! The search feature is **** on this site! If it's something stupid that's a repost such as a video just ignore it, the mods will handle it. God i'm getting sick of all the whining on this site lately.

It takes the same amount of time to answer a quick question as it does to bash the person about the search button. Not to mention what about all the the people who have their mods listed in their sigs and stuff. Search cold air intake and see what you get. Vague titles or for sale titles.

Try helping people instead of bashing them, you'll find it helps the community more than you'd think.

I would like to see a change in the software that anytime you try to make a new thread, you are prompted for the thread title first, and then when you click continue, it offers you a search result from your title before you type the body of the thread. But I don't know how to do that.

Thread deletion?

I dunno then, perhaps just link somebody to the corresponding thread? Personally, I think its just a catch 22 of having an automotive forum. Sure its ok to recommend the search button, but at the same time the threads already made. You might as well answer the question along with a recommendation the search button is there. Just needs to be done in a more welcoming fashion.

Its all about how the recommendation is presented, if its a bashing, the person is going to feel unwelcome and probably not give a hoot about the suggestion anyways because they feel insulted.

I like the idea of having something on this site similar to Google where as you type your thread title, similar thread titles will come up and you can just click on those. I think it'd be a great solution to the lack of searching issue.

And non-descriptive thread titles drive me nuts. Had I not opened this thread I wouldn't have known what it is.

Also a big problem on this site is that the mods seem so "lock-happy" and just lock threads instead of coming down on the people who made them get locked. Warnings and temporary bans can go far...

Youre right, I fucked up on this title. I think descriptive titles is really the last thing on our minds. We need stop people from posting new threads in the first place and the damn search engine wont get confused by 9 million "does anyone know which section of the autoparts store is the elbow grease in?" questions.

Yea really. And people need to stop starting threads about issues they're having and (for the love of god) just PM a mod because that's what they're there for. Not that this thread is one of them because some good may actually come from it.
