I propose a "Product Review" section of the site
I propose a "Product Review" section of the site
I got a couple new things for my car recently and wanted to write a couple reviews but never got around to it.
This got me thinking, why don't we have a review section of the site for Cobalt and G5 car parts? (maybe Ion too?)
It would work like the How-to section meaning that a review must be approved by a moderator before it is posted. That way we don't get flooded with retarded one sentence threads and only get well written, in-depth reviews. Site vendors wouldn't be allowed to post for obvious reasons unless reviewing another companies product and not one they sell themselves. Unbiased reviews is the goal here.
A couple of rules should be set in place for this hypothetical section.
- If a review is biased or is not written well or just isn't complete in the eyes of the mods, it will not be approved and the poster will be asked to re-write it.
- Certain reviews should require a certain amount of experience/knowledge from the poster; therefore no noobs reviewing something they obviously don't know anything about (i.e. Mah NOS blew my engines, product x SUCKS!)
- Reviews of the same product by different members should be kept in the same thread for easy searching. (one GMPP exhaust thread, one GMPP intake thread, etc.) Section should also not allow general posting. (i.e. no "Great review" or "Thanks for the review" posts) Threads that are deemed not worthy for the section anymore should be deleted rather than locked. This will keep the threads and section clean and easy to read.
- A product review must contain the following:
Which car/engine the product is meant for. (Cobalt, G5, Ion, 2.2, 2.4, LSJ, ALL, etc. etc.)
Place/site/company purchased from (link or phone number if applicable)
Price of product and shipping costs (if applicable)
Brief description of product (i.e. name, purpose, materials of construction etc.) Pictures optional but highly recommended.
At least one paragraph (or more if needed) written review of product.
Description of interaction with vendor (no need for this with an Autozone or something, only really needed for online or specialty vendors)
On a 1-10 scale, over all satisfaction with product (based on quality, durability, meets claims promised by vendor, worth the price etc.)
On a 1-10 scale, over all satisfaction with customer service provided by vendor (if customer service was needed, if there was no contact between customer and vendor then a vendor review of "No Problems Encountered" should suffice. Otherwise, how quickly did they answer your calls/messages? How informative were their answers? How quickly did they resolve a problem with shipping or a faulty product? etc. etc.)
I think with all these requirements the section would a great tool for the community just like the How-to section is. (and then maybe we will be rid of most of the "What exhaust is the best?" or "GMPP intake or K&N?" threads and we can lock and direct them to the review section and tell them to decide for themselves)
So Mods, JonnyB? What do you think?

Nothing will stop the "which is the best" threads
And I don't think it's fair to not let the product vendor post in a review to defend there product. This section would have to be monitored very closely though.
None the less, I think it is an awesome idea overall... but only the Admin and add a new section so I guess you'll have to get his attention somehow to read this.

I tried PMing JonnyyB. No reply yet.
It seems that I can not get the attention of JonnyB.
I think I will write a couple of reviews and post them in the lounge to give the community a taste of how useful this will be to everybody. (for anybody reading this thread, probably nobody
