if members can't take a little hazing and **** talk... well... get over it. I'm typically not the one to go bashing on people hard-core... but there's always gonna be people who think what you are doing is lame or looks like total ass... just the way the world works.

I do think it's a fine rule to make... but I believe you are going to have a really hard time enforcing it. Honestly this site already has a certain reputation among other forums (we're called shortbuss.net by many, many people for a reason) and I'd hate to see any action taken have a more negative impact on this reputation.

Sorry for the speil... and from the looks of it maybe I am the only one who feels this way. But let the people vote on it and see what you get.
I think the reason for the new rule was to stop callin people out. and Jon stated that "we all drive cobalts". no one deserves to be flammed, thats just your opinion. as mine is keep negative comments to your self. It would be tight to get something like this going but ther is just no way. unless you screen every memeber, make it so you cant post any post prior to 6 months of memebership then your not going to see any real change. the thought is what counts but we lost all control with the internet and site.

+1 - been warned here as well.

methinks this is being made a rule so "slapbans" can be done instead of having to sift thru the rules and see "hmmm, which ones....." then attach a ban when a mod sees a person they don't like post something they don't like/don't agree with. but hey, y'all like banning & locking over here so hey why not add another rule? i mean really, you coulda just added this anyway Jonyy, cuz the rules are subject to change w/o notice anyway. there are other forums out there that have virtually none of the probs as this one, with literally no rules on them.

were there votes on all the other ones? if not, i propose a poll on which ones to keep/throw be put up, if ya wanna actually start being diplomatic about the whole thing.

There are a couple of different issues here.

The in-fighting between owners of different models needs to stop. I don't care if you have a 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4. The bottom line is we are all Cobalt owners, and we should all treat each other with a certain amount of respect.

When it comes to people posting up pics of their cars or projects and asking for feedback, however, people should be free to express themselves as long as they keep it respectful and reasonable.

For example, what is wrong with saying "Sorry man, I think the wing looks like ass on your car and the interior painting is pretty ricey"...? The person asked for feedback, and it was not a personal attack.

If I went on to say that I'm tired of seeing poser 2.2L owners trying to rep like they have a SS/SC, then of course I would be a acting like a clown who deserves to get a banned.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't want to see this turn into a situation where people go running to the moderators every time they hear something that isn't sugar coated praise. Negative feedback, as long as it is respectful and non-personal, should still be allowed.

I've made SEVERAL posts about exactly this sort of hate and to be honest I've seen it going down since I joined. When I first joined it seemed that if you didn't have a SC car you'd get flamed for it but as of late IMO its been on the decline.

A rule would be fine but its a shame you need a rule to tell some people how to act in public, I thought thats what mothers were for.

It's an internet forum not the UN, ppl can say what they want, it's up to everyone else if they wanna listen/read or not. IMHO suck it up, ppl call the 2.0L all sorts of **** and bashed it. There's people that bash any car, "Veyron is a POS, facking ugly" I agree that people shouldn't be bashing each other but thats life on a interent forum.

BTW I'm bitter about *****-ass rules like this ever since I was told I couldn't say "retard"

that's because "retard" is offensive to people with learning disabilities that don't want to be associated with the guy that put "the turbonator" on his car.
I think "*******" is an appropriate substitute.
Good Luck!

I think we should be focusing less on rule making and more on rule enforcement.

It doesn't have to be spelled out, just enforced. There are already rules in place to address 90% of the childish bickering that everyone is sick of. I think common courtesy is just a thing of the past. Do what you feel is right, but in the end, rules are worthless if they're not being enforced...

Zeig Heil, Zeig Heil! Hail the Fuhrer! You will obey and you will like it!

Personal freedom rocks! As a Libertarian (and more fundamentally an American,) I'm against the basic concept of oppressive rules and regulations censuring free speach. I'm all for respecting others, but just because we all feel something is a good idea, doesn't mean we can suppress the rights of others. This is especially true when it's just someone expressing their opinion - as obnoxious or offensive as that opinion may be. We already have rules to censor threats and such - but being a dick is still legal in this free country, isn't it? I thought freedom of thought and opinion was what the internet was all about?

Once ones reputation gets tarnished through several complaints, the offender should be warned and then banned for a while - not a rule - taken on a case by case basis. If a moderator feels the offender is repentant and requests to be reinstated, do so. If they then fail to treat others with basic respect then a perm. ban is in order. I'd rather be judged by a person (moderator) than some hard and fast rule.

If I'm walking down the street and some guy takes a swing at me, I'm not going to run to the police; I'll just hit him back. If some guy acts like an ass and disrespects me online; and I call him a tool, I don't expect to get banned for it. If you're going to ban someone for standing up for themself then ban me now. The guy who threw the first punch should be disciplined - but only if they go around picking fights all the time - not for a couple disagreements. When I was a kid and got in fights, win or lose, the combatants usually shook hands and left with new found respect for each other. We'd settle most of our disputes amongst ourselves. Tattle-tales were humiliated; "Just be a man and settle it yourself." we would say.

My solution: Hakuna Mattata. Just lighten up, laugh it off, and don't take offense too easily. If you are offended, handle it one-on-one through a maturely written PM or e-mail. We usually went behind the building to fight after school (after we had both cooled off somewhat) - we didn't take our battle to the middle of the street, nor did we use weapons or allow the conflict to escalate.

Sorry for being longwinded, but I thought some childhood wisdom might help.

I think it's a great idea There are numerous times that I am ashamed to be a cobalt owner or part of this community b/c various people feel they have to prove the size of their e-*****.

I agree to this rule, this would stop trolling for the most part, I think. And would stop the "should have gotten an SS/SC" and stuff, but I fear it would stop people from making their opinions known (those that do it in a respectful way). i think it would be a good idea, but it can't elt people not voice their opinions, and it should come down hard on the ignorant/disrespectful. Age doesn't matter, respect should be a given.

Nice post I agree guess what in life people are mean deal with it not everyone is going to like your 10 foot tall aluminum wing if you don't want an opinion don't ask. I voted against it because I feel it is oppressive and will if anything chase more people away from this site. I hate the bashing as much as anyone but a person is entitled to their opinion, this is mine

I agree 100% with the new rule! Stuff like that made me hesistant to post when I owned my 2.2. Maybe a rule like this will encourage others to post without fear of the dreaded "You should have gotten the SS / SC" all in all great idea!
