Server Question
So, just a quick question.. Been wondering it for awhile now..
WHY THE **** IS THIS WEBSITE SO GODDAMN SLOW
Honestly. I'm sure there's some kind of reason behind it, but I'd just like to know why. I mean, honestly. I go to click on a link to the next page or something, and I can seriously go make a sandwich or something. It MAY be up by then.. Perhaps go to the bathroom? I'd just like to know what's up.. It seems like there's a billion premium members.. So shouldn't we have a forum that's at least usable..?
Not trying to get on anyone's ****, just trying to figure it out..
Thanks.. lol

i believe the mods have said previously that the advertising and premium memberships barely pay for the bandwidth we use.. thats not counting the money vendors pay though
i think theres a lot of missing money here, but good luck ever finding it

eh you say that, but your internet connection would not be able to support the bandwidth needed for all the users, esp during "rush hour" on here
that aside, we really need a new hosting provider, or a higher package with more processing power and bandwidth... ive ran several websites, even owned a company that created/managed websites, and I can tell the amount of money the website takes in vs what they pay for hosting fees is not even..

What king of internet connection do u have whiteboy? i have cable and it never takes more than 15 secs to go somewhere. Some times the site will be down.....but other than that I don't have much of a problem with speed.
on a t3 at work, and a 25/1 cable connection at home. his speed has nothing to do with the slowness, lag, or downtime of the site

Did some calculations.....
We have 45441 members total.
After searching 50 pages of 100 members(5000 members), I found 29 premium members.
Now we crunch the numbers.
45441 / 5000 = 9.0882
9.0882 * 29 = 263.5578
263.5578 * 9.99 = 2632.942422
That's $2,632.94 worth of money from premium memberships when averaged out based on a 5000 member count per year.
Now I looked at a good web hosting company, godaddy.com.
There unlimited webhosting plan, with unlimited databases, unlimited web space and unlimited bandwidth, is $9.74 a month when signing a 36 month contract.
9.74 * 12 = 116.88
So in one year, it would cost $116.88 in web hosting cost, including bandwidth.
2632.94 - 116.88 = 2516.06
So there is $2,516.06 of unaccounted for money in this scenario.
So this also does not account for vendor supported funds.
This site should not be struggling by any means.

This could all be fixed, but the problem is we have an admin that is to lazy to solve some simple issues.

slowswap I thought you knew more than that... GoDaddy's "unlimited" plan isn't going to cut it. You'll be on a shared server, not dedicated, which means your site will compete for server resources.
Fine print: "Plan provides unlimited storage and bandwidth; storage subject to availability of space on a single clustered server and subject to the Terms of Service in your Hosting Subscriber Agreement. Limitations apply to other plan features."
There would be no such thing as dedicated servers if you could spend $15.00 a month and have it support a site like this. Now go look at there Dedicated Sever prices: http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hostin...play=dedicated, and even more if you want an "Assisted Service Plan".
I'm not saying that the Admin can't afford to improve the site or it's servers, but it's not as cheap as you think to support a site this sized.
Also, FWIW just because we have "48,073" members, doesn't mean they are all active. In fact if you look only ~19520 users have logged into the site in the past 365 days. (Premium memberships only last 1 year) (Page 488*40 users/page) so using your own calculations of 29 premiums per 5000 users
19520/5000 = 3.904
3.904 * 29 = 113.216
113.216 * 9.99 = $1131.02/year
Now, lets take GoDaddy's cheapest Dedicated Server plan $71.99/month(if you buy a year at a time) * 12 = $863.88/yr
$1131.02(prem. dues) - $863.88 = $267.14 profit, assuming he has the cheapest GD dedicated plan.
Now for ***** lets look at the an "Assisted" Dedicated Plan.
$239.97/mo * 12 = $2879.64/yr - $1131.02/year in premium dues = $1748.62 out of pocket cost per year.
Fine print: "Plan provides unlimited storage and bandwidth; storage subject to availability of space on a single clustered server and subject to the Terms of Service in your Hosting Subscriber Agreement. Limitations apply to other plan features."

I'm not saying he doesn't make enough to fix it or have it fixed, I'm just saying that the $15 plan isn't the proper scenario for the hosting used on this site. And he's not making hand over fist on the premiums like slowswap made it appear.
