Faded clear cloat. Solutions?!?!
Faded clear cloat. Solutions?!?!
I just recently debadged my trunk, and I scrubbed a little to hard when I was removing the gunk holding them down. Now I have a Hazed area was the emblem was. It's not scratched, it just looks as though and removed some of the clear coat. How can I fix this??
You'd be surprised how tough clear coat can be if maintained properly.
Experts actually use fine grit sand paper to remove scratches from clear coat.
Afterwards, you have to hit it with a tough polish on orbital polisher. Then step down to finer polish, buff, wax, and complete.
Post some pics so we can judge how bad it really is.

I used goo gone and a rag to get it off. But it wasn't taking off this black outline left by the logos, so a buddy of mine said to use a mr clean magic eraser. It actually worked reall well....but it worked too well and rubbed some of the clear coat off
If you research more about those "Magic Erasers" you'll find out they are all made of Melamine Foam.
The reason they work good is because it acts like a very fine grit sand paper. Which brings me to my previous post.
You actually sanded down some clearcoat which is what professional automotive detailers do.
I would suggest you get some polish and buff it out with an orbital polisher.

i'd say ricocav is right. an eraser pad isn't gonna remove your clearcoat you just roughed itup is all. hand polishing wont do jack, you will need to use an orbital or a d.a. with some heavy polish followed by fine polish.
i'd recommend mequiars m105 folowed by m205

Well, I guess ill go and get some polish and buff it out. Im not mad at how it looks. You can really only see it if you look at it from the right angle, but as a cobalt owner, you all know that if there is 1 little thing wrong, its always on your mind *_*
You can do it by hand, try something simple first. Miguires Ultimate Compound and a microfiber applicator. If it doesn't work you'll need something stronger and a machine. 90% of What you can accomplish with a machine you can do by hand. It just take alot more elbow grease and alot more time.
