Moving to Houston!

Hi all,

I'm movin' to Houston very soon, and I'm in need of some advice as far as what parts of town to avoid, where some good apartments can be found, etc. I'm gonna be working downtown so any and all recommendations inside or outside the loop would be appreciated.

I'm mainly trying to find a place to live where I can park my balt and not be afraid its gonna get vandalized. Reading through the comments of a few places I've found on apartmentratings.com has me scared half to death of my baby getting hurt, lol.

Thanks

I've lived in the Galleria area for about 10 years. I worked downtown for a few years and it was an easy commute taking Memorial Drive straight into downtown. There are quite a few apartment complexes on Augusta Drive and Bering. I lived at the Tuscany apartments on Bering before buying a town house. It was pretty safe, but I paid the 60 a month extra to get my own garage.

Stay away from the southwest side of town... highway 59 from Chimney Rock to Fondren.

I'd recommend you live in the CLEAR LAKE area. They have some very nice apartments at reasonable prices, and the area is beautiful. There's also a few good car meets going on every weekend. It is on the southeast side of town, down interstate 45, a few miles south of beltway 8. I used to live there but now live in Galveston.... search Webster TX, Clear Lake City, League City, etc.

Do what I did and find a place with a garage...no worries here

Apartment complexes in a large city suck for vandalism no matter what kind of neighborhood you're in.

Thank you for all the suggestions so far, really it means a lot.

I have my eye on this one:

what do you guys think?

I've had a few people tell me to stay away from 59, but this one has some pretty impressive reviews, and its only 4 miles from where I'll be working.

That's actually a decent neighborhood. The part of 59 to avoid is anything south of the West Loop.

Thanks for the help guys. I finally found an apartment close to work and I will be moving up there on Friday. Now I was just wondering which Chevy dealer you guys recommend. Any other stuff you want to throw in is welcome.

Looking forward to going to meets and stuff after I get settled in.
