Texas Motor Speedway

Starting Friday July 3 TMS will open its pit row for "legal street racing" with an 1/8 mile track and a $20 entry fee. Its called Scion Drag and Brag and will last Six Consecutive Friday's and gates open at 6pm.

I am not sure how I feel about this but I figure some of you might like it. I will most likely go out on the opening day and check it out. $20 for an 1/8th mile and no time slips just seems to be a little much. I think it is an ok idea but I don't think the people that put these things on really know anything about street racers and street racing. Don't take it like I am for street racing because I am not but if you want to appeal to these people you have to understand what they like and why they do what they do. I will atleast give it a shot and maybe the TMS owners are seeing if the interest is there to open up the 1/4 mile track that has been talked about for years now. So what do you guys think?

I think that is exactly what is going on, they are trying to break into the drag racing scene. I think it is also a way to try to get the street racers off the street and onto a track.....but that won't happen, there will always be people street racing

You going to go? I would like to atleast check it out and if we could get some cobalts/ions/g5's/hhr's/solstice/sky's out there and have a meet, it would be a great time. Who's all in?

I'm interested... $20 to be able to dork around without causing a wreck or getting a ticket? yeah...

Plus, if we show interest and they build a track with a timer, we all win!

Great idea BUT they are only going to do 1/8 til they see that there is enough interest??? I guarantee there will be less in terest than would have been in they ran it 1/4 to begin with. Awesome for them to offer that up but I would not go unless it's 1/4.

I would not make half of a movie and see how many people like the first half.......then make the rest of the movie to let people see it if I thought it was worth it. Seems silly. If you do something do it right. ONLY reason people even run the 1/8th is because they don't live around a 1/4 track and it's what they have to settle for.

1/4 or bust IMO

I 100% agree with you on the 1/4 mile thing. The gauging interest on the track thing is purely speculation at this point. There has been talk for the last 5-10 years on them building a track out there and if they did it would be a 1/4 mile. I am wondering if pit row is long enough to fit a 1/4 mile run with ample time to stop. The oval if I am not mistaken is 1 1/2 miles around so it would most likely not be long enough but might be close.

I think it is smart, they do not have enough space on the current track for a 1/4 run, they are gauging the interest in having a track there before they spend millions to put in one to make Ennis look like a 3rd rate track. I think it is smart, they are making sure the interest is there for this area to pull people from Ennis prior to spending all that money, its how business is done when a company wants to break into another industry

I just think 1/8th is a waste. Yes still better than nothing. Be a track owner and advertise that you are running an 1/8th when you have the capability to run 1/4 and see how many people show. The will go elsewhere to run twice as far. More distance and more speed equals more fun and more people. Endstate for the owner........more money. I don't know ANYONE that would rather run 1/8th over the 1/4

Ennis is a HUGE part of why this track hasn't been built from what I have heard. The owner of Ennis was said to have pitched a fit about it and petitioned against it to the state and nhra, so on and so on. If that track is ever built I bet it would hands down be the best track in Texas and no doubt be my new weekend hangout.

Im guessing also the track will be nicer to those without axels and such due to the traction.

Well when thats all you go thats all you got. IMO its better than nothing. I just don't think there is enough room on pit row for a 1/4 mile run.
