For everyone close to the NC coast check out Coastal Plains Raceway on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month for Midnight Madness. Gates open at 9pm and you can start making runs at 9:30-12. Then from 12-1 the madness begins. If the weather isn't terrible I'll be going tonight, and hope to go every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. This should give us on the NC coast a place to meet up and run.

 

Well, I ran the 1/4 at Midnight Madness and pulled down a blazing fast 15.023 and walked away with a few valueable lessons.

1) The car will go much faster when the tires actually maintain traction.
2) Go on the last yellow blinks out, not when the green blinks.
3) The car will like you more when you don't miss gears and and grind the hell out of the 2nd gear gate.
4) It's not a good idea to break until you are actually across the finish line.
5) I couldn't drive my way out of McDonalds drive through.

But the car made it home and while it's running like a giant turd at the moment(I'm sure this can be attributed to my driving) everything still works. I'll worry and worry for about 3 days and then if the car still gets me back and forth to work, I'll go back to the track and not repeat my mistakes.

 

That sucks about your car. I think you were parked next to me on the grass. I am running stock and my best run was 15.2 @ 93.93 MPH That was with some wheelspin in first and second. The right side of that track is slick as ****. On my first run i spun all of the way through first and ran a 15.3@ 91.61 MPH .I beat up on a VW GTI and a P.O.S. CRX. I will see you there next month unless you plan on going out there on Thursdays. I live about five miles from the track. Installing Stage 2 is a must. I am going to talk to my hook up at Marine Chevy to see how long it is going to take to get me a kit. It almost seems worthless to even run the 1/4 mile again untill i have that installed.

Hey dude, we forgot to do something Saturday....screw the coolant cap back on all the way. I didn't notice it until this morning. But I have plenty in there and I have a jug of Dexcool already mixed up for when cars cools down.

 

it sucks that my stock cobalt beat your car...LMAO..but i will say, that was a good night...

 

dammit...I remove caps when I loosen them so I won't forget things like that... thank goodness its all good.

 

I don't remember it being that way when we raced side by side, and I still have the slip. LMAO. And I was in the slick lane. And what about those 3rd gear pulls we did? You did not beat me, and we can go back to the track Thursday and run again.

 

whatever...you keep thinking that...whos the one with the windows down while racing... thats what i thought...i accept your invitation to race again...and then we will prove once and for all...whos the better driver...oh ya..blame it on the slick lane to...that was my first side and i still pulled a 15.0 off...LMAO

 

Well, it looks like we've got ourselves a challenge. Anyhow, windows up or down you're gonna get served. And as it turns out I beat you in the slick lane while you were in the fast lane. Let's just hope we don't get rained out.

it's been hot so a 15.0 aint bad in all this heat. did the gti you raced have anythign done to it?

 

we are probably going to almost every midnight madness and almost all of the thursday races...if we can watch the lights right this time we both should be in the 14's...

 

Well, the Ingalls TB is installed and nothing is broken. I need to adjust it a little, make it a little stiffer and I'll be good for the next track day. It's raining right now and I broke traction on purpose and I still got a little wheel hop, but nothing like before and it shifts alot better now. We're going to be at the track alot as far as I can tell, let me know when you want to come down.

 

I will.. I need to figure out how far it is from here if I'm going to be positivly make it. I know I wont be there on this upcoming 1st saturday. since it's labor day i'm going home.

I may be able to get a few of my buddies to come up too if there is somwhere to crash.

well you could always crash here at my house or at his house(i dont know if he knows that yet...but he will when he reads this) ...since we do live across the street from each other..

 

that's cool thanx guys. I'd probably only have about 2 or 3 friends since some are getting deployed and others have attachment that dont let them have any fun.

We just want to roll deep to the track. and anything for a Cobalt owner.

 

Hey don, check out the cobalt haters thread, you could probably add a bitch or two in that one.

 

There would be nothing better then to see a ton of cobalts rolling up into the track...

 

I know a couple of the cobalt guys around here but it seems they all work all the time or just odd hours like me. I do my best to get them to roll down. and maybe pick up a couple more I see new cobalts all the time here so it shou;dn't be that hard to bring a couple down.

my friends all have pretty nice cars my buddies GTI is clean and good fun competition for cobalts. a nice RX7 turbo and I just met some new guys one with a brand new redline and another two guys one had an ls1 z28 6speed and his friend had a turbo civic.

I doubt that many people would show up but just a few.
