Firebird Raceway - Oct. 21st

Lets get a roster of those who are 99% positive they are going to show up. I'd like to get at least 4 or more Cobalts down there. Even if you have a 2.2 you can still show up to have some fun or just hang out and watch the races. I'd say be there at 8:00 pm or so. I'll call the track and find out the official starting time for the open track though.

SO WHERE THE HELL WAS EVERYONE??? I got there at 5:30 waiting to meet you guys at the track and not be the only balt on the track ... turns out I only saw TWO balts at firebird and they werent even running??? ... VERY VERY VERY sad outcome hopefully next time more people go so I aint the only one representing.

Bitching aside I had a decent night for this being my first track race. That track is one slippery bitch but I started getting the hang of it and started to slowly bring my times down. My best time which I will post as soon as I upload it to mine or my friends hosting space was ...
R/t - .553
60 - 2.229
330 - 6.356
1/8 - 9.674
MPH - 73.63
1000 - 12.525
1/4 - 14.937
MPH - 94.71

During this run I had some nasty spin in first but luckily it was only for a monent. After the run I could tell my car could do much much better but I was unable to pull it out.

Shifting technique... Started with a small burn out and once lined up launched the car at 2.5k rpm's but did NOT slam the gas until i felt traction was there. Shifted to 2nd at about 6k rpm's which I think was stupid on my part. Shifted to 3rd at about 6.4k rpm's. All shifts were done using power/super shifting (I.E. not ever letting off the gas)

yeah that 16.4 pissed me off. my foot was getting heavy cus that damn mustang keeped effing up and the track coordinator kept yelling at him to back up then he did and went to far then went forward and went to far then rolled his window down then backed up and got yelled at then rolled forward and rolled up his window then backed up to far and the dude was like you need to line up or get off the line then got at the right spot. ALLLL during that time my foot was on the gas and im wondering wtf is going on. as soon as he got lined up they lit the tree and I was not in any way ready for it and suffered the worst run of the night for me.

not sure when but normally whenever is clever. It all really depends on the work week because that will dictate overtime. Overall there was only about 28 cars total that were racing and I got 6 runs in before leaving at 8:30 and the racing started at 7 so thats a HUGE amount of racing for such a short amount of time and it stops at 12 so you can see the potential runs you can get in. It also started an hour later than was expected because of the lighting issues that they were having

it sucks when that happens because if you take too long the tree will light the moment the cars are setup

I was there running my SS as well. I got there around 7:20 and got out of tech around 8:00 or so.
My best was a 14.669 @ 98 mph another was a 14.72 @ 98 mph and my worst was a 15.2...I dunno the mph on that one cause the bonehead at the slip shack gave me the wrong damn slip.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm slight mods get you a few tenths of a second huh ... I wonder how fast I can get without mods seeing as my fastest was a 14.9 without mods ... my goal is 14.6 no mods ... bulldog how were your launches? I left at 8:30 cus I didn't see any other balts on the strip or in line but im curious to know how you were launching. Were you warming up the tires before the race or just going in cold to the line? also what rpm level are you keeping the car at because I tried 3500 down to 2500 and it seems for our traction issues it seems the lower the better.

I never warm up my tires, it'll just kill tread life and glass over the tires. These tires are not made of a compound that will hold heat, so burning out on them won't do any good as they will be cold and wet when you go to run.

As for my launching, I kept it at idle and just left the line like I was leaving a traffic light in a bit of a hurry. I tried launching at 1500 rpm and feathering the clutch my second run. But this just netted a ton of wheel hop and a 15.2.
