New Phoenix Member!

Whats up everyone! Just joined on the site after I recently bought a 2005 SS/SC. I have to admit I'm extremely happy with my new purchase! I love this thing! Before the Cobalt I had a 2003 Eclipse GTS that unfortunately burnt to the ground.... . With performance mods, car still has the manufactures' warranty on it so im not sure exactly what mods can be done besides the GMPPs, correct? I wanna make this thing pretty fast, to be able to keep up with Evos, WRXs, but it will still be my daily driver. Is it possible? lol Anyway, everyone that lives here in Phoenix, where does everyone meet up? Id like to join over at the Pavs maybe I have seen some cobalts and get to know all I can about the LSJ! Here are some pics, Im open to all opinions! Thanks guys!

Looks like my car!

Welcome! I should be headin out to the pavs in a couple weeks. When I go out there with my car, you should DEFINITELY go too, if you want to meet everyone, cause probably every cobalt owner within a 200 mile radius will be there

Welcome to the site! You should be able to make it fast as well as a daily driver. I have done alot to mine and still drive it everyday, you will like it even more once you start modding it!

Saturday is the only day of the week the pavs happens on.

I'd like to add, just don't go overboard on the mods. maybe GM Stage 2 & then GMPP Exhaust Manifold, cold air intake, maybe a new muffler and DEFINITELY a tune. Contact Steve (Psykostevo) for tunes, he's the #1 tuner here in AZ

Oh, I'd also recommend polyurithane tranny/motor mounts. It makes the car vibrate a lot more, but it will help with your axles in the long run.

to stick with the awd bros huh (welcome to the site) stage 2, intake, exhaust ... to edge them out get the dual pass and upgraded heat exhcanger and go down to a 2.90 pulley with a psyco tune. This should keep you inline with warrenty and will keep the car as daily drivable as they come. Im still trying to save to get the dual pass, heat exchanger combo and the 2.9 after that a pysco tune.

Im guessing the GMPP are the way to go over some knock off aftermarket. I was think the stageII with full intake, header, and exhaust and a tune. I want to be able to blow off mustangs and SRT4s and 8s

2.9 & the head exchanger will actually void your warranty... The GM dual pass intercooler wont though. I would definitely recommend that, but don't go lower than the GM Stage 2 Pulley & don't go larger than 42# stage 2 injectors.

but regardless of what you do, get psykotuned by steve.

don't get too ahead of yourself all of the cars you want to beat have way more potential than the SS/SC ever will (without major engine internal mods). As for GMPP exhaust, I think that's a big waste of $600. go to Pro Muffler & get a new axle-back exhaust. That's all you really need because the stock SS/SC exhaust is 2.5" anyway. The GMPP exhaust doesn't really add that much more power, it's more for sound purposes.

I just figured the GM parts would work the best because GM has more money to put into the research. I never thought about and axle back exhaust.... would you do a header as well or no? I will deffinitley get a tune and like the 7100 rpm readline that I have heard about.

jrzdude- we should roll to the pavs this saturday if ya want

for the mods there would actually be very minimal research for a company like gm. The gm kits come with upgraded injectors a smaller pulley and a smaller belt along with a new flash but the mods are still conservative. The only one that would take some time with research would be stage 3 since it has a competition mode and allows a 50shot but it voids warrenty.

You should get the head ported (exhaust side only), and get a set of pistons. Then the motor will handle whatever you want to throw at it.
