tinted tail lights illegal?
They are illegal... and for good reason... I hate when some ******* sprays a whole can of niteshades on their tail lights so i cant see anything at night in the rain or if its even remotely foggy.
I think that's how it is where I live too. As long as you can see a red tint it's legal. I haven't got in trouble for my tail lights yet.
I got my entire set painted with black and clear and the stock bulbs emit enough light to satisfy the 150m visibility requirement in Ontario. I was worried about them being too dark so I have ordered LED replacement bulbs to brighten it up
false statement....
theres a lot of loop holes in a lot of the laws....
for instants....
1. has to produce a RED light....if you tint your tails right you should have a red light emitting from the light
2. cannot have a reflective lenses....does not apply as tinted lenses are darkened clear
3. have to be seen from 500 feet(il law or 1000 feet is tx).
sometimes you get a dick head cop. so just do some reading up on your state and local laws and then print it out and hi-light the loop holes and next time you get pulled over for it just show the cop. i had to do that with my window tints in illinois when they became legal. many cops pulled me over and said they were illegal but according to law the tints i had were state legal. never been pulled over for my tail tints but the laws here it has to omit red light at 500 feet with a non reflective housing.

Amen. I hate getting behind ******** that tint their lights I always go around if at all possible. I actually think they're not as bad on a *clear* night because there's more contrast. In the day time it's hard as hell to see them. I saw a Cobalt get owned 4 or 5 years ago on my way to work by a UPS truck for that very reason.
Thanks for the replies. My wife is actually the one that got pulled over for them and they gave her a fix-it ticket. But this happened in globe while I was at work and got the call. Supposly the cop said he couldn't see the red from 500 ft until she hit the brakes. At night time they can be seen pretty good too. I've tested these to make sure they can be seen good day and night to avoid this problem. But I guess the cop had nothing else better to do. I've had mine tinted for over 2 years and been pulled over a couple times but never had any cops say my tail lights were illegal until yesterday. So looks like I'm getting new light for the court.
it all depends on how they were done. im against nightshading tail lights despite what people say as i have seen nothing but **** poor lighting come from it. the black mixed in clear method i use is far superior to allowing light through. ive yet to have a set of lights ive done have issues with police with 500ft laws in day or night.
