Cali-CSSNET homies, need info.
Hey guys.
I'm from, let's just say, Pittsburgh, PA. I actually live in a mid-sized community just outside the city. I just kinda began thinking about moving. Again, just began. It probably wouldn't happen for over a year or more anyway, since I'm currently in college here. I'm interested on information about mostly the LA area, however I'll take whatever info you can throw at me about other locations.
Let's start off here. I've always wanted to go to Cali. The usual boy-hood thing while you were in middle/high-school was to move to Cali as soon as you graduate. I obviously didn't. I'm attending school here to save a little cash and still live at home to do so. But in a few years I'll be able to move out, and by that time I'll be 21 anyway. A fair age to begin moving out at. Plus, with a car and motorcycle payment, I'd be able to save the cash by then too. Regardless, the funny thing is I've nevr even been to Cali before. Obviously you see LA glorified on TV, and I'm sure it's not that great in person, however that's ok. I have been to NYC before, and I figure the feeling is about the same in terms of people frendliness (er, un-freindlyness) and danger. haha. But if you use common-sense, I'm sure it's fine, like NYC. Plus, I'm a good size guy (tall and such), so I didn't get called out too often. And if I'm still with my girl by then (been with her for almost 3 years now), she'd come too. That'd certainly help with the 1,000+ apartment costs...
Regardless, I do live in a reasonable sized city, so our cost of living isn't too cheap. I did a cost of living comparison online, and I was surprised to find out I'd need only a little more money to live in downtown LA than I would in downtown Pittsburgh..?? So before I start blabbering on and on, I'll turn this over to you guys who live there. Anything I should know ahead of time? Any spots to watch out for in terms of living? Anything at all? Thanks a ton in advance..!!!

No love for the out-of-towner? haha

i would try to have a job lined up first. Cost of living in downtown LA is really high. I dont live in LA but there are a few that do, Im sure they will chime in soon. But from what i have seen for apartments ur looking at 900(slums) to 2500(decent) per month for an apartment in LA
i hope you like extreme traffic, smog and high taxes, cops who look down on tuners and a bunch of other things. i'd try san diego or orange county before los angeles. i can't wait to leave!!! but if your gonna do it get a good job lined up first. the good news is the weather is always awesome here. never to hot, never to cold. and we have nice beaches too. plus you can do just about anything in cali. snowboarding surfing, whatever. just don't get caught modding your car.

By the time I could actually move, I'll be done wit hthe lease of my Cobalt, so I'm probably not gonna do a ton in terms of tuning. I saw a coupe nice looking apartments for around 1,000 or so a month in LA. Of course I'd actually fly there and check everything out before-hand, however I really appareciate the input so far!!

Well, this may be a tad sooner than I thought. I'm trying to transfer to USC. I'm waiting to hear back from the admissions guy with a little more info, then I'm talking to my mom about it, then sending in the transfer app. So we'll see...
i live right in between LA and SD (temecula area)...the location is perfect and the cost of living is WAY cheaper than it is when living downtown. Don't get me wrong it is still expensive in comparrison to other places but i live litterally an hour from everything you could want to do out here

well this is the first time ive seen the post... i would NOT move to la... there are pleanty of surrounding areas that are 100x better! im sure that you didnt actually plan on moving to la exactly, i just want to make sure.... now on a positive note, the weather is great, the women are beautiful (stuck up, but beautiful), and there is anything you want to do w/i a short drive (maybe not so short becuase of the shitty traffic
) but seriously it would at least be a good experience to move here, espically if your going to usc.
