Found this today

So I was told by a co-worker about a upcoming race in April. It is a "Standing Mile" top speed run in Mojave, CA. It is done at the Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, CA. I just wanted to post this up here since I am planning to attend to see what the Balt can do. Webpage is Mojave Mile: The Fastest Mile in the West and they have all their info on the site. I am not planning on going 200mph, but in the class I will hopefully be running 165mph is the "speed limit" for the car. If you want to go faster a roll bar or cage is needed with racing suites and fire extinguishers and stuff like that. Looking at some of the cars that run, the Cobalt shouldn't do too bad as long as it hits 160mph it will do better than almost half the field of entrants.

EDIT: HMMM Reading the results of the March 6, 2010 and there was a 2009 Cobalt SS that was piloted by a guy named Ron.. wonder if he is on here... He only ran a paltry 133 mph but I'm guessing it was stock.

some advice, since I've done a standing mile before.

Air the tires up to about 40 all the way around, INSPECT your sidewalls and tread for seperation.

Take the hi rise off if you have one. Be prepared to break something, as this event is likely the single most abusive thing your car can experience going in a straight line. Warm the car up, run fresh 93 octane, and remember the second run will be faster than the first.

If your serious about going fast, take out your seats, your spare, your subwoofer, change your oil before the run, try to cut a perfect launch and so forth.

150 can be done, almost can be done stock if you know when to shift. Plan to shift 2nd to 3rd around 5500 and 3rd to 4th a little early around 5800, ride fourth all the way, the gearing in 5th makes progress slow even though torque flatlines way up there.

I am hoping my car will hit 160 but we shall see... When this car gets to 140 the aerodynamics must be worse than a brick. I want my dad's friend to come with his Magnuson superchargerd 427 aluminum big block 800hp+ beast of destruction. I bet he could hit 200 mph in that thing with me driving... He weigh like 275lbs. and I'm only 185lbs.

From 70-155 mph took about 1 mile

0-70 doesn't take that much distance so the Balt should do at least 150mph

A c5 corvette. Originally it was a Z06. But now its a space shuttle with a steering wheel. The thing will break tires loose at 80mph its a total ******* monster.

Yea true that... The distance is much shorter that one thinks at these kind of velocities. Is that on yours or a stock one? I am hoping to get to 160 because after a rolling start (of 25 feet haha) I should get to almost 120 by the end of the first 1/4 of a mile. The 25 feet will eliminate wheels spin for the most part. Plus they don't start the time until after you go through the 25 foot box. Maybe I am getting too hopeful, but who know unless someone gets after it 100%. I will be running drag radials so traction will be good hopefully. I want to get to at least 140 on my first run.

Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's standing mile time... COOOOOOOOOOOOL RUNNINGS!

I don't have a camera mount yet but hopefully by then I will have a GoPro HD. So we shall see... Gonna have to do the mile run while blasting some Golden Earring, RADAR LOVE!!!

My last trip to the track I had a 14.0 with a 108 trap speed. The guy that tuned mine had full bolt ons and was just trifecta tuned and he hit 115. I am HP tuned and am pushing a smidgen more power to the ground and I'm getting an Exedy hypersingle installed next month with a lighter flywheel. I am also going to be getting some drag radials and I am hoping I'll trap close to 118 on a 1/4 mile at like 12.5 but we will see.
