4 disk brakes on 2.2L LS?
4 disk brakes on 2.2L LS?
I have a 2.2L LS, and my car has rear drum brakes. Can the rear drum brakes be converted to disk brakes? Does the conversion package even exist?
Thank you
Thank you
And anyway, since most of the braking comes from the front, I don't see the point of getting discs for the rear..More esthetic than really efficient...And there's no ABS on LS I think...I don't have ABS on mine..
drum brakes are perfectly fine reallyh just upgrade the ffronts. it's just for looks a good set of slotted rotors and pads and good taken care of rear drums will stop just as well as all disks.. i'll be honest though i wish i had all 4 disks
SSBC, look on cobalt addiction or Turbo Tech Racing.
but like everyone else said, just upgrade the front brakes. I am about to invest $12,000 in my build and all I'm doing is slotted front rotors, HAWK HPS pads, Russell stainless steel brake lines and new shoes for the rear drums (drums have over 45,000 miles), I am getting 17 x 8 wheels with some good rubber, all of that in harmony should bring my car to a halt quickly. rubber on the road will substantially alter brake performance.
so if you dont already, get more rubber on the road and some minor mods to your brake system and you will be happy.

thanks guys. i'll just stick to upgrading the fronts, but i just don't like how the drums look... eh, the hell with it. i always wondered... which are better cross-drilled or slotted?
the upgrade kit is more for asthetics than anything... not gonna make that much of a difference. like said, its a larger kit, so to compensate, you would have to upgrade the fronts as well.
As far as the drums... paint them. I am gonna do mine black this spring. basically make them as invisible as possible. I thought for a while of painting them silver with a black section to look like a disk and caliper at high speeds, but decided against it.
your best bet is to get cross drilled and slotted. but make sure that the slots are straight, curves dont do anything, and make sure the slots reach the edges of the rotor, otherwise you are not efficiently dissapating heat. I just upgraded to the GMPP slotted and drilled and love them.

this may be a silly question, but what does "FTW" stand for?
Painting the drums black doesn't sound like a bad idea!
How much were your GMPP rotors?

Curious, are there rear drum upgrades for the 2.2s around?
Upgraded drums plus brembo front discs would be one sweet setup.
I painted my calipers and drums black a while ago. They look GREAT. I can get you a pic if you want.
