5 lug to 4 lug

So I know this is probably stupid but I want rear disk brakes and I don't want to buy new wheels.

I have a lead on a SS/TC rear end, from what I see it should be a FE5 suspension with JL9 brakes. so 5 lug rear disks with abs.

I have FE1 with J41, 4 lug rear drum with no abs.

Can I swap in the whole rear end and just redrill and stud the rotors or is my hub from the 4 lug needed?

All the other brake swap threads go from 4 to 5 so I didnt' see a clear answer there. I just don't want the 5 lug bolt pattern. It would be more or a project to do than for the best perfomance possible.

Is the ABS going to screw me up?

Hmm I had just assumed they were decent. The drums actually do a fine job of stopping on the daily but wanted a small upgrade and keep the car weird.

Why not just swap the rear, the front hubs with the caliper, new wheels and not halfass the job?

It's not halfassing the job, it's very specific. Probably not the smartest but I don't want the 5 lug bolt pattern or to use adapter plates to change the bolt pattern which to me is halfassing it.

Well you're at the least going to need an adaptor. Probably need them for the front too cause the ones that give you the optional pattern are stupid bout an inch thick and are going to push those wheels out.

The hall sensor on a set of 4 lug hubs might be different than on a 5 lug. Add to that I think the front spline count is different as well.

I was reading one of your threads from around 08 that sounded like this was possible, can't find it now.

I'm only doing the rears.

The more I think about it though the less it seems feasable. Maybe i'll just go for 5 lug.

You don't have ABS so the line sensor will just be there unused, be aware that you'll have bigger brakes in the rear with this than you do in the front and make sure your wheels even clear. You would have to buy a second set of rear disks (which you should do anyways and not reuse wear parts sitting in a junk yard) and have them redrilled to 4x100 then swap your old hubs over and that's it.
