ABS light

Did a search for "ABS" in the title of threads and nothing matched my problem...Although I'm sure it's been asked. I just wanted to try.

Changed a wheel stud on my 06' ss/sc and I took of the caliper to do so. Put the new stud in and caliper back on along with the wheel. Drove about 15 seconds and the ABS light came on. Restarted the car and the same thing happened. Now it's always on.

Did I not put all the parts back on right? Is there something I forgot to put on? Did go near the wires to wreck a connector or pull out a wire.

any advice is appreciated.

Happened to me once when I did suspension work. Not sure why but it lasted about 100miles... Eventually went off.

Did you unplug the sensor? Just taking the caliper off, you shouldn't have to mess with more than 4 bolts.

Sounds like you may have pulled the sensor out of the connector and/or didn't get it plugged back in correctly.

During the installation I ran to NAPA to pick up another part and someone else threw the caliper back on. Doubt he unplugged the sensor tho.

Is it possible some dirt or grease got on the sensor on the hub?

When I got back to my shop I pulled the the tire and unplugged the sensor to spray it with some electronic cleaner. Started the car a few with the light coming on.

Shook the caliper back and forth and started the car up again, this time the light was off. Drove it out front, turned it off, and locked up my garage. Came back out, started the car and the light was back on.

I just hate lights being on, especially when its BS like this.

That sucks dude.

What do you mean by replaced one of the wheel studs? I assume the stud you put your lug nuts on. To do so I thought you had to replace the whole Hub Bearing Assembly. Which would require you to pull the ABS plug. If you bought a used Hub it might be damaged. Can't remember if you can install it the wrong way because it is a triangle, I don't think you can but been a while since I swapped mine.

Nah you can just replace each stud.

Just looked at a thread over on some Checy Colorado forum, and a few people were getting the ABS light when replacing brakes. Some spent hundreds of dollars replacing speed sensors, wheel hubs, and harnesses with no avail.

Then one of the guys tapped the speed sensor a little closer to the rotor and the problem was fixed. A few others chimed in and said this also solved their problem.

This may explain why the light went off for me when I wiggled the rotor around and started the car up when it was on jack stands. Then came back on after driving it.

Anyone think it's worth a shot?

Tapping it? Why not? How many miles have you put on it since?

maybe 20 miles. I just don't like looking at lights and hope they go away.

haha. I know your pain. I had the CEL from a catted DP for about a year before I actually found someone local to give me a tune.

I never had to do a sudden stop when mine was on. Will your ABS not work if you need it in an emergency?
