Aftermarket Calipers?

Has anyone upgraded to aftermarket calipers only? Does Wilwood, Brembo, BAER, or any other company make calipers that will take the place of the stock calipers and outperform them? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

What is our stock pad size and rotor thickness? I can search for Wilwood calipers based on pad size and rotor thickness.

Wilwood kit, http://www.cobalt-addiction.com/handling.htm there you go man. $700, not bad IMO. 12.8 rotors and 4 piston calipers. Should stop pretty damn close with the SS/TC with those on there.

I want some stock size cross drilled and/or slotted rotors. I just emailed Wilwood to ask if they have calipers that will work with our rotors and stock mounts.

I've seen that kit, but once again, I AM LOOKING FOR STOCK CALIPER REPLACEMENTS.

Why not buy Brembo's? I am sure they make a 4 piston caliper that will replace the stock rotor.

Noyou cant, because it needs a larger rotor, and this guy just wants to change the caliper. the fact is the stock caliper single piston heavy etc is a very good piece. And there is a a Camaro caliper you can use off the new Camaro that they use in Koni but they change the rotor and he doesnt want to do that.

The question is all bs as he wants to improve clamping force by changing just the Caliper r and it doesnt work that way. What i did, to space out the stock caliper and install a 311 mm PFC floating rotor and hat improves cooling and clamping force because it moves the caliper outboard on a larger rotor. This upgrade is 900 bucks. No good for this guy

You cant just go bolt stuff up and expect it to work using stock rotors all for a $1.98. Upgrading to the TC caliper and rotor with new wheels or wheel spacers is not a bad idea at all but you will still pay 800-1200 bucks minium. No good for this guy.

Yeah I would suggest some race pads like EBC Yellows, their slotted and dimpled rotor and dot 5 brake fluid with stainless steel brake lines and that should help alot.

I don't think I've seen you be this pesimistic before, bad day? Opinion on the Wilwood kit from CobaltAddidiction? It's should, in theory, bold right up so they claim, which is why it's so cheap.
You're basically just doing a normal caliper/rotor replacement? And for the price of a good set of rotors and pads...you're almost halfway there, so might as well go big or go home at that point : THis was directed at the OP as well, not just qwikredline. When you do the math, this makes sense.

Thanks for the words of wisdom! lol. I am aware that going to a larger rotor will do more for stopping power, but I was under the impression that the caliper had something to do with brake performance as well. The Wilwood kit on Ebay and Cobaltaddiction.com have wilwood calipers only from what I've heard. The rotors are made by someone else. I would buy one of those kits, but I am unsure of the rotor quality/longevity. I'm also not sure I want to add more rotating mass with larger, thicker all-steel rotors. Honestly, the biggest reason I would go to aftermarket calipers only would be for looks, but I'm sure they would perform as well or better than the stockers also.

dollar for dollar the crappy heavy malibu single piston LSJ caliper is pretty darn good and pretty heavy duty...in terms of braking its the tire that provides the stopping power, the brake is just a means of dissapating heat, so you can do it over and over and mass is everything for that, therefore the larger 28 mm thick rotor is even better than a 26 mm TC rotor...if its looks you want dont be talking about better clamping force . i have seen some aftermarket 4 piston opposed calipers yield and bend a lot...
