Air Ride Systems

Anyone had any experience with these? coming up to tax return time and im looking at things id love to get.

I live in a tough winter area and id love to have my car lower....but winter would be a nightmare.....and though the cost is high....an air ride system would give me the best of both worlds....not to mention a pretty sweet mod.

the one for 2k from cobalt addiction looks pretty sweet....and i imagine the install wouldnt be to tough.

Input?

originally when i was doing up the cavi bags were high on my list just because of how much fun they are and at the time not many people had them and to go to a show and people be totally blown away is so much fun. but a girl on bags...now thats the shiiiit. its rediculous how many guys will freak when they know a girls car is on bags. if your planning on going big with your car, its almost essential to pull out all the stops, this being one of them.

The only thing i worry about is the performence of the bags them selves under intense pressure. i.e. Will baggin the cobalt end my auto crossings, and track meet runs?

good question. and badgirl im glad you responded here cuz i have a few more

How is the airbag system for durability for a DD car in somewhat intense winters.....
is this something that i will comfortably get 5 years strong performance out of?

also the 4 inch play in the system.....do you need different springs for it to go lower than stock or will this system bring the car down on stock springs?

camber and allignment problems?

thanks for any input.

yes it is much bumpier but i can tell you from experience that youll get worse drivability with a cheap set of lowering springs. i also wouldnt recommend lowering a car by heating the springs.... ive been around the scene long enough to see just about everything. People have done it...and ive seen springs bend right in half and catipult right through a fender.

would i recommend bags on a car you will auto-x ...no. too much weight and force put on to one bag can cause leaks or breaks and with the constant movement side to side on a road course i dont see even the strongest of bags holding up against that . They arent designed for that.
Daily Driving you can get away with. winters...i cant honestly say. we have driven kennys bagged probe in snow and ice with no issues but havent spent a whole winter out and about in it.
There are tons of cars out there on air ride setups, some people love them, others hate them. its really about what you want from the car.
lowering...regardless of just about any route you go will never be the same as stock.
so its a personal decision people make to sacrifice that stock feeling suspension to lower their cars, bags, lowering kit, or coil overs.

we use our air ride setups on our own cars and we wouldnt install a product we wouldnt back.
both kenny and i have air ride on his probe, my balt, and we have also bagged a harley f150 and several other vehicles with no problems.

not trying to steal her thunder but i can help you a bit.....

-ive herd their fine in winter, you just have to worry about the solonoids... not 100% sure on on that, i was going to throw my stock sht back in for winter

-i believe these replace your suspencion fully. you dont use springs anymore

- for alignment you should find the ride hight you will be driving at for about 80% of the time, make sure nothing hits, no wheel well rub on turns, and drive on your daily routs a few days, if all is good get it aligned at that heght and just set that as ride height with an electronic controller.... then you can ujst bring it back to your set ride height for long trips and such

I guess my final question would be normal city driving, if i am feeling the need to "tear up the street" persay , would taking a trafic circle a little faster than i should result in a leak or blow out. I guess what i am really asking is this going to take my car, performence based, and turn it in to a show car
Thanks..

Air ride and performance driving dont mix well. I would not go as far as saying the baging a car means its a show type car now but I would not put it on a track or push it hard on the road any more or you could have a problem.
A blown bag o line during a hard turn could and probably will cause you to crash.

But Im not a big fan of bads on anything that is not going to be a show car my self.

later

You must take out the entire stock setup.

yeah.. lol they replace everything, the stut actually has an air bag instead of a spring.. and riding with it all they way up is not fun, my friend has a bagged cavi.. all the way up it is the most uncomfortable ride ever... they have to be set right for it to be a ncie ride other wise its bumps as all hell and it is alot of work.. if a line blows, or ur compresser dies out, u lose ur trunk totally, there are alot of down sides.. and you will go throiugh tires like nuts

i disagree with the loss of trunk and driving

the easy street air ride in which i have installed on 3 cobalts, and a few other cars ahve been great

they use a 9 way adjustable shock with a bag over shock technique. this gives a more comfy ride and stiffens it up when u want at the same time.

as for loss of trunk, i can mount selenoids under the rear deck all u lose is 1.5 feet in behind the seat or in the corner for the tank/compressor, i can make your spare tire seats fold and everything still accessible and ready to have space.

there kits are top notch full digital, they also have a 1 touch ride control where u can program 2 ride heights were u push the button and the system will make sure there is that much air in each corner all the time, fully programmable to adjust all corners and ride heights

awsome systems
