Alignment Help Please!!

Alright today I noticed that my tire was wearing uneveningly, the tires are almost brand new and the back right tire is wearing pretty badly as seen in the pics-

So i was like ok well I will take in for an alignment no biggy right? Well I get there they put it on the rack and say there no way to adjust the rear alignment because its just a straight axle in the back? Well so he said it seems like something is bent and thinks that it is the spindle. Is he right that our rears cant be aligned? I really need to know or I am going to the dealer tom. first thing to see if they can fix this thing under warranty. I don't want to drive 45 mins to the dealer if the rear can be adjusted, I will just take it to another place that might know more.

Can anyone tell me why my tires are wearing like that? It is only on that one side the other side looks totally brand new.

Thanks,
Matt

Did you rotate them lately.
Looks like they where from the front with that type of wear!

excessive camber?...and dunno what kinda alignment machine the guy had but just use the good ol'measuring tape and measure all your angles..i/e thrust angle, wheel base on both sides...stuff like that just to get a rough estimate where your tires are going ...have you noticed any steering probs going down the road like having to constantly compensate for any pulling? it COULD be bent and you might be dogtracking ?

lower control arm could possibly be bent somehow maybe even your rear axle..and if you have to compensate constantly at 60 then unless the road isn't very flat your most likely dogtracking (at least considering that is that only your rear tires are like that) which means you do have a bent part..but like i said bring out the tape measure measure your wheelbase on left and right if you have a diff in wheelbase you know your bent and hav eyou hit any thing hard lately? curb any thing? just go to a diff alignment place they should do this all for you get a second opinon

well call it what you want..im not very familiar with the ions so i wouldn't really know...and its still possible to have something bent like a control arm on your suspension on that tire

something is either bent or out of proper alignment. Any really competent alignment shop should be able to diagnose your problem and list solutions for you so this doesnt happen again. Exactly how many miles are on the tires, what are your driving habbits, do you carry loads often? what pressure are you running in the tires? is it the stock air pressure? do you recall having any accidents with the car or hitting something in the road? There are many variables as to what can be causing that rapid wear. unfortunately, not a single person on this site is going to be able to tell you what is exactly wrong from just a picture. You just need to find a reputable alignment shop that can really diagnose what is going on.

The tires have less than 3k on them, I know no one can tell me what is exactly wrong, but does give me a guide for when I walk in and tell them what I want.

the full contact shims on these cars aren't all that bad to put in. The alignment machine does all the measuring for you after you compensate the targets and do caster sweep. The machine will tell you what shim to use in what position and even print out a template for you so you can cut the tabs off to fit around the hub bolts or abs. you can even change the position of the shim in the computer if you like to better suit the angles you would like to see. As far as intall goes, they are not all that bad on newer cars like the cobalts, but yeah, they can be a pain on something that is like 10 years old like an ancient sunfire or cavalier. I forget what they charge for the full contact shim, but i think its about $58 to install where i work (sears).
