Am I the first?

To put EBC red stuff pads in a TC Brembo caliper?







I got the pads for free for test fitting them for EBC.

they have been selling them for a while for the TC. I would love to see a review on the street and at the track.

Um, I'm not so sure about that, from my email:

Hi Jason

You may be able to get lucky here and help us at the same time.

We have been waiting to find a driver with this car to send as free set of a pad DP31539C that we think fits this Brembo Caliper.

If you give us your address we will ship a free set to you and ask you to check they fit and are a nice snug fitment in the caliper and locate the pad material correctly onto the rotor on the car without rubbing on anything or hanging over the top of the rotor, if they do you get to keep them and if not we will still anyway when the correct pads are made gift you a set.

Your address then is needed please

Chris when we get this send this set of pads at no charge and follow up with Jason to see what he says

This email was sent to me from Andy Freeman who is the owner of EBC, I believe. The reason I asked if I was the first is becuase I had read on here some where that pads from another European car (who's name escapes me right now) also fit our calipers. I was wondering if somebody had ordered a set from EBC for said Euro car and put them on the SS/TC.

Guess not. I had seen them before on Discount tire direct listed for a TC but after looking further into it they have the same pad listed on a 05-09 SS. Tired of running into that.

Red stuff pads warp rotors, is that what your clever (yet childish) comment is trying to say? I'll believe it when I see it. This car is my daily driver so it doesn't see extreme braking very much. I went with the red stuff primarily for dust reduction. I keep the real car for the race track...



If they warp the rotors fine, I'll buy another set and change pads, no big deal. The point of my post was to make others aware that there is an alternative to Hawk pads and OEM out there now.

i still think it's retarded that GM only equipped the front of these cars with brembos... i want to see a cobalt owner fit some on the back for the all around look.

the reds should be fine for mild DD driving. i dont see how these would be a problem. do they make alot of noise? i have hawk ceramic racing pads and they squeel like a stuck pig.

installing pads without re surfacing the rotors isnt the best idea, unless you were just test fitting and not test driving them.

that alone can lead to warping and creating hard spots in the rotor.

Thanks for the heads up but we were only test fitting. The stock pads are currently on the car right now until I can find the time to get the rotors turned.

that's great to see they fit, and your the first to try i believe, most shops will turn rotors anywhere from $12-20 a pair. drilled and slotted too. it will give you the best results and most rotors can be turned 3-5 times before replacing.

I started looking into that and got flamed.

That aside, I tried contacting Brembo and got no response back. I'd have to pull up the thread but there's a guy on here that has access to a shop that may be trying to do a refit for the backs in the Spring, along with an e-brake addition (since they don't come with them as-is). It looks like it'll require some fabrication to make it work. I think it'd be great for look and performance. Something just like the rears off of the Evos would even be great.

I can't say that I'm an EBC fan for track use. There's a reason why there's no real race team in existence using EBC... I wouldn't even use them if they gave me a box full. Daily driver? Meh. Use whatever floats your boat.

Brembos in back would be pointless. You're not going to keep enough pressure on the tires back there to use any sort of aggressive pad anyways, so what's the point of putting on calipers that have potentially bigger piston area? Paint them black if you really want them to match more. You can probably buy some BREMBO stickers off eBay too

Wang ( ) here is 100% correct, there is a reason the Koni Challenge car ran stock rotors and calipers in the back, you dont need anymore brake than that. The rear brake on the /TCs are pretty damn big for the car, zero reason to look to change them for any other reaon than weight reduction in my opinion, and putting a big 4 piston caliper out back isnt gonna reduce weight.

evo rear brembos are only 2 pots if someone was looking to change the rears and could get the E-brake to work with them, and it would be purely aesthetics.

it was just a suggestion, someone brought up brembo stickers if one cared enough.

Well after seeing a set of Hawk pads seperate from the backing pads, I won't use them again.

If you don't want to use EBC pads fine, that's great. The whole point of this thread was to let people know of one more option for brake pads for the Brembo calipers.

EBC is sending me a set of rear pads to try out also. Based on the crappy response I have got from this site, I won't be sharing their part number with you guys. Do your own research. Won't really matter since most of you seem to like to bad mouth them anyway.

One of my Brembo justifications was the easy swap of the pads. The fronts are a breeze compared to the rears. Heck, there are youtube videos of guys doing pad swaps in less than two minutes. Any aesthetics and performance benefits aside (or lack thereof), that alone would be a nice feature for the backs.
